Really, I don't think people ever hated Britney. They just felt enormously sorry for her. Even the worst of her "look at me shenanigans came off as SO desperate, and the slimy schmucks she hung out with were SO obviously manipulating her and taking advantage of her problems, and her (let's be honest) general lack of intelligence, that she was never the "bad guy". Just the er... stupid one. One ADMITTEDLY that we, and everyone were ALSO disgusted at, but mostly because it was just TOO much. She came off as SO crude, SO unwilling to act in her own best interest, SO blind, it was just too much to even feel for her for quite a while.
