Re: Britney Spears Just Won't Go Away

I have a slight hunch Britney's photographer "boyfriend" is secretly snapping pictures or videotaping them having sex together so that when their inevitable "breakup" occurs, he can sell the sex photos and/or videotape to the highest bidder.

Just a hunch.

I don't doubt it for a second. According to his ex's he's a manipulator who treats women really good and then it gets ugly. He's in it for himself and the money he can make off it.

Nothing will change, Katydyd, because we've been predicting that event will happen for some time now, and when it does, we can mourn briefly for a person who wasted their life willingly. But it isn't going to change her actions that were not solely defined by any mental problem, nor solely by her social problems such as narcissism, or the fact that she refused all help proferred for anything and everything that ailed her, scoffed at it and flipped it the finger, in fact, and refused to take medication when prescribed to help her. At certain points, even people with mental/social issues have to take some responsibility for their actions if they still inject themselves forcefully into the public masses. And to excuse everything she's done over the years, especially the last year, and chalk it up to some unknown degree of possible mental problems is to allow her a carte-blanche to an unlimited number of ridiculous behaviours that can't all be explained away by that one excuse. Perhaps if she gave any indication that she gave a damn about anyone but herself, I'd feel slightly differently, but she doesn't, and I don't, and I don't apologize for a perfectly reasonable reaction. Death only changes your future, it doesn't change what you already did.

No need for a hunch. It's already public knowledge that he's tried to sell pictures of them. He just failed to do so because apparently they were blurry or something like that. He got offered peanuts by one paper in Australia if I recall correctly, and nobody else wanted to give him even that.

So no doubt he's just lurking around waiting for the right moment to take more, since I think he didn't accept the lowball offer he got.

Or, he may have just decided there's more money in being Brit's version of Howard K. Stern, and the pictures will sit in a vault until after she's dead. Which of course could be soon.

My husband wanted me to go look at a house today that is for sale. I almost put on my wedding dress to go look at it. It worked for Brit!

I'm really not sure why I feel like I need to defend this girl, but for some reason, her situation just really saddens me. I admit that there are plenty of times when I feel the exact same way, when I feel like she should just grow up, and if she really wanted to be out of the spotlight, she certainly could be. But the more I think about her behavior, the more I believe she really can't control herself. This girl has been in front of the cameras since she was 11. She was a pop super star at 17. Obviously she didn't have a strong support system to keep her grounded and guide her through it. Something, somewhere clearly snapped. I think she started with some post-partum depression that was the catalyst to a more serious bi-polar disorder. But who knows? Unfortunately, for many mentally ill people, they can't help themselves or take responsibility because they don't realize they have a problem. Britney's narcissism, outrageous behaviors, and grandiose gestures are all symptoms of bi-polar disorder. If you or I were bi-polar, we wouldn't act out in necessarily the same way, simply because we don't have the access that she does. Most mentally ill people don't have a cadre of paparazzi following them around feeding into their delusions. Nor do they have the money or celebrity that Britney has in order to enable that kind of behavior. Nor do they have millions of people who are eagerly waiting to hear what outrageous thing they're going to do next. Nobody who suffers from any type of mental disorder does so willingly. If she were rational enough to truly only care about herself, she wouldn't do many of the things she's doing. Walking into a salon and shaving your head is not the act of a rational person who is selfishly thinking of herself. Letting her dog defecate on a designer dress is not selfish, it's sick. Really, it's a cartoon characterization of someone who is completely narcissistic. Her disastrous performance at the VMA's was not the act of someone thinking only of herself. Career suicide? As far as medication, many mentally ill people refuse it. Some, because they don't think they need it. Some are paranoid due to their condition. Some take the meds, feel better, then mistakenly think they're "cured" so they stop taking them. Anyway, I'm off my soapbox, done beating a dead horse. I just hope someone gets through to her before she does end up dead. And when and if she gets help, I hope there's a little more understanding for her. She's certainly no saint, far from it, but if it is proven that she is suffering from a mental disorder, then no, she can't be expected to take full responsibility for her actions because she doesn't have the mental capabilities right now to do so.

Re: Britney Spears Just Won't Go Away

At this point, Brittany doesn't have a normal thought in her brain. And I agree, it's matter of time before something tragic and permanent happens.

Maybe the photographer will actually convince her to get help. One can still pray for a miracle!! And Lord knows, Brittany needs one right about now.

The world is basically just waiting/hoping she'll take one tiny iota of responsibility for her actions and then I think many people might be able to feel a little different. And also, there are always degrees of mental problems, if she does have them (and you can be nutzo without being insane, too), but it's extremely rare that it would prevent them from taking any responsibility at all. It would be wonderful if she would take full responsibility, but I think that's too much to expect from Britney -- but taking no responsibility at all is not excusable, either, and I don't believe there's any reason she can't.

And Britney can't use the excuse that she doesn't know she has problems. When she came out of one of her several 'rehab' stays, she said she'd had a chance to talk to a psychologist and she now realized some of the problems she had and "hopefully" will work on it. Throughout the past year, she's had people who cared about her, people who were there only professionaly, et al, who even she acknowledged were trying to help her with some of her problems, but as she kept saying "I don't like to be told what to do". So be it, then.

(by the way, her VMA 'performance' was a classic example of narcissism...she was too busy doing 'me' stuff to rehearse properly, told people "oh, they always love me" when repeatedly asked to rehearse, and went on under the assumption that she was Britney, all she has to do is a few movements and the public would adore her as they always had. Everything in her mind and actions was centered only on her, how people love her no matter what, all she had to do was show up, etc. Classic narcissim)

But I don't blame you for feeling bad for her, Katydid. I think all of us here have at various times have felt the same way for various lengths of time. Unfortunately, there's only so much sympathy you can give to someone who doesn't want it, and basically tells you to f*** off, she's doing as she pleases. As I said, no matter what problems you have, at some point an adult has to take some iota of responsibility, and Britney is no exception. Until she does, her supply of public sympathy has almost hit the bottom of the barrell.
