Kevin Federline Arrives for Custody Hearing

Kevin Federline arrived at Los Angeles Superior Court's Stanley Mosk Building Monday morning for the latest round in his ongoing custody fight with ex-wife Britney Spears.

Shortly after 9 a.m. (the hearing was scheduled to begin at 9:30), Federline appeared, wearing a blue pinstripe suit and looking confident and upbeat.

As the hearing time passed, Spears, 26, remained at home. A source said she had "no plans" to attend the session. Another source said she had been "strongly advised" by her legal team to attend the hearing, adding that the singer was told that "her attendance is important."

The court gathering is expected to focus on Spears's four-hour Jan. 3 standoff with police, firefighters and paramedics at her Studio City home. Events that evening resulted with Spears being hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Federline, 29, currently retains sole legal and physical custody of the couple's two sons, Preston, 2, and Jayden, 1. Spears was stripped of all visitation rights following her hospitalization.

Also at issue Monday is whether the court will extend its ban on Spears's visitation. Federline's lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, told PEOPLE that it's possible Spears might not see her children until April, when the ex-couple's custody trial begins. (Federline has requested primary physical custody.)

Over the weekend, Spears continued to be seen with paparazzo Adnan Ghalib, 35. Among their stops were a Mercedes dealership and a department store, where Spears reportedly shouted a profanity at a bystander who attempted to take her photo.

I realize I'm preaching to the choir here, but I don't see any reason why BS at this point should be given any visitation rights as long as she continues acting the way she has been. She needs to focus on getting herself help. Nothing she's done in the last 2-3 months gives the appearance that the kids are at all her priority. I'd be floored if the judge decides anything other than deferring the issue of custody until the April hearing (with her having no rights to see them until then). I don't see how the court has much choice, if she can't even be bothered to show up.

Maybe as sick as she is, Brit realizes that by not showing up, she's doing the best thing possible for her kids She's done nothing to help facilitate any type of custodial arrangement with her children, and maybe subconsciously she's doing this on purpose because she realizes she's no good to them right now. She can't or won't admit to anyone that she's got a serious problem, but she's spiraling further and further out of control. The wedding dress at the auto dealers, the fake accent, the bizarre behavior with the paparazzi and Adnan all definitely back-up the bi-polar diagnosis. Maybe at some level she realizes she is a danger to her children and by going against everything her lawyers are advising her to do, she is hoping the judge will have no option but to take the kids away and deny her visitation. She's not ready to help herself, but maybe she doesn't want the kids hurt anymore.

January 13, 2008 -- The lusty lensman squiring Britney Spears around California and Mexico is a motormouth ladies' man who's been after her for months, sources said.

Adnan Ghalib, the son of a devout Muslim couple in Birmingham, England, came to the United States in 1996, according to published reports.

He began shooting for the photo agency Fame Pictures in 2003 - claiming to have earned his photography chops by doing work for a private investigator. He took risks, running afoul of the law twice that year on photo assignments.

In June 2003, he was busted when he wormed his way into Adam Sandler's nuptials. A Hollywood paparazzo source said Ghalib "told us he blagged [conned] his way into the venue by using the name of a guest but got busted when the real guest arrived. Everyone wanted the pictures, but Adnan was prepared to go one step further."


Now, with his fling with Brit - he reportedly is already married - Ghalib's reached a whole new level of notoriety.

The romance with the pop wreck is heating up just as Spears faces a critical court hearing tomorrow in her custody fight with ex-husband Kevin Federline.

"He can make somebody feel like a million dollars; he could make a girl feel so good," said a source close to Ghalib. "With her, he found the perfect prey."

Another source said the Afghanistan-born, British-bred shutterbug is "a womanizer, an egomaniac who would ramble on about everything."


No one is even sure if he's married. Reports have said he is legally wed to, but separated from, American beauty AzLynn Berry, a model and licensed beautician. But her aunt, Wendi Bennett, told The Post that if there was a wedding, the family wasn't invited.


Those who know him say Ghalib talked about Spears long before the two were an item and long before he began covering her almost exclusively seven months ago.

"He loved Britney," the source said.


The swarthy Ghalib caught the eye of the sultry songstress. In late September, Britney asked him to rescue her from a phalanx of photographers at an LA fast-food joint.


Ghalib, 35, soon rose to the top of Brit's personal paparazzi pack - she'd ask for him whenever she felt threatened by the media horde and answered only his questions.

Colleagues began calling him "A-Fed" - a play on Spears ex-hubby's K-Fed moniker - as he graduated to pumping her gas and fetching her Starbucks coffee.

Things started getting serious on Dec. 22, when Britney jumped into Ghalib's Mercedes and the pair, after making stops at a CVS and a gas station, holed up in the Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills, PageSix.com reported.

The videographer was nowhere to be found during Spears' Jan. 3 medical meltdown, but the two have been hot and heavy since she left the hospital.

The outings included a trip last Sunday around California's Palm Desert, where they were snapped making out and a quick jaunt to Mexico Thursday.

The paparazzo was with Britney in her home Friday night, having moved in at least some of his things, according to online reports and a Post source.

I don't know. You may be partially right, who can tell with her? But I just feel so sorry for this poor girl. I can't imagine having to live my (relatively ) sane life under the scrutiny that she does, let alone if I were suffering from a mental illness. And yes, she does crave the attention, and she does make sure that the paparazzi knows her every move, but that's part and parcel of her illness. She has made some incredibly bad choices in the people she surrounds herself with, and those she chooses to push away. Again, part of her mental illness. She lives in a virtual fishbowl which has got to be a huge strain for anyone, let alone someone without a tight grip on sanity in the first place. Not to mention, even if she was mentally stable she hardly has the best role models to look up to in the parenting department I'll give her the benefit of the doubt that she does love her kids and on some level is aware that she's a very sick girl. And no, I'm not a huge Britney fan, never have been.
