A rash that appeared on Katie Holmes' mouth was reportedly caused by a Scientology ritual.

Katie's fiance Tom Cruise is a Scientologist reports The Sun.

According to a New York columnist vitamin B3 - niacin - is used in a purification process.

It can reduce cholesterol and boost circulation - but a large doses causes a red rash.

Katie developed the rash in May, she started dating Tom in April.

A church spokesman said: "Whatever is on Katie's face has nothing to do with us."

back in the early 90's I took chromium picolonate, some sort of mineral or vitamin over the counter which they swore was the next diet pill.

Anyway, the one I took had niacin in it and by the end of the day of the first day of taking it, I look totally sunburned and red. Never took it again.
