Whatever is going on, she certainly seems to be the subject of a lot of image enhancement lately. All of a sudden it seems as though I see flattering pictures and captions of her everywhere. Weird.

Tom Cruise follows Scientology to the book
18 October 2007 - Tom Cruise can't say no to his daughter Suri because Scientology forbids it.

The 'Top Gun' star and his wife Katie Holmes are encouraged by the sci-fi cult, of which they are both devout followers, to "support" their 18-month-old child, not scold her.

A source said: "Tom and Katie have a hard time saying no to Suri. It's all about being positive and supportive. Scientology advises parents to try to be the child's friend. They don't scold their children, but instead explain that bad behaviour is the 'wrong action'.

"Tom and Katie are very lenient with Suri and don't like to give her too many rules. Suri pretty much does whatever she wants, whenever she wants. If she fusses before bed, they let her stay up later. If they want her to go swimming and she cries, they'll take her out. If she whines about food, they'll ask her what else she wants to eat. They always want to please her."

Suri, who is still too young to take Scientology classes, is also constantly surrounded by Scientologists and her two nannies are members of the 'religion'.

The source added to Us Weekly magazine: "Tom doesn't like associating with people who aren't Scientologists."

Tom, who has been hailed by leaders of the faith as the "chosen one", reportedly sent his two adopted teenage children to Scientology summer camp this year.

A source revealed: "The summer camp is part of Scientology's 'get them while they're young' campaign."

A Scientology representative has denied the faith interferes with the disciplining of its followers' children.

The representative said: "How a parent disciplines their child is left up to the parent."

That's not true. He's perfectly willing to associate with people he's trying to pressure/brainwash into becoming Scientologists.

If Tom were a follower of Reverend Moon and sent his kids to Moonie Summer Camp, then people might be more up in arms. But apparently the Church of Scientology gets a "bye" on stuff like that.

This contrasts other things I've heard about kids growing up in Scientology. The thing is there's a "celebrity" version of Scientology and a "regular" one. The "regular" one in much stricter and cult-like, and this includes how kids are treated.

For the non-celeb set it's actually a core part of their beliefs, apparently, that kids are "nothing special". To them, a child is simply a smaller, newer container for their infamous "thetans" and everything in their lives has to be constructed towards indoctrinating them. There's no concept of parental affection, and no loyalty beyond making sure the kids' path is set (from accounts I've read, in cases where a kid has escaped Scientology the parents will frequently cut off the child completely, usually without a moment's thought if the parent is really a "true believer").

If you want to see something that's scary, take a look at this document which Operation Clambake (a well known anti-Scientology site) has prepared to answer questions from kids of Scientologists who are investigating breaking with their beliefs.

    Operation Clambake presents

In the course of answering these questions that the kids of Scientology might have, the document actually gives a terrifying look into the mindset they are trained towards. Look at the document carefully and I dare you not to shiver.

It's typical Scientology hardball. Every time you see the Cruises looking shiny and happy on TV remember that its backed by an organization that works like a combination of a cult, a terrorist organization, and the Mafia to get what it wants. Although its actually even weirder than any of that. I suppose by now we all know about e-meters and auditing and Xenu and Thetans and the crap about thetans sticking to people's bodies, and the weird stories about ancient people being thrown into volcanoes so alien spaceships could scoop up their thetans and brainwash them aboard huge alien 747s. But you want a different kind of weird (just to see how varied the insanity is)? Look at this freaky stuff.
