That's exactly it. Many in the black community consider doing anything that's perceived as "trying to be more white" as a very bad thing. Some of the biggest insults have to do with someone seen as trying to be "white." It's not only very hurtful, but it can be harmful as well because in some communities trying to speak well or do well in school is considered "oreo" behavior. Nene was way out of line, but not out of character.

I don't hold it against anyone if they are irritated by Latoya. I don't have to work with her so I don't see whatever it is they see. Sometimes personalities just don't mesh. Thing is, I have a problem when people treat people with a lack of respect, and should they dare to try and defend themseves in any way you get the raging bully treatment that Nene dished out. Speaking to anyone like that is dead wrong, speaking to Latoya like that was kind of like watching someone kick their cat. She's not that bad, not mean to others, so it was very hard for me to watch that and not feel like I was back in grade school watching the band geek getting shoved in their locker. It especially hurt to hear those words said to a woman that has heard those things all of her life. She wasn't the "talented" Jackson or the "pretty" Jackson. Joe was known to be physically and verbally abusive. This woman is an abuse survivor. How Nene can claim to represent abused women and not recognize the remnants of it standing so clearly before her simply amazes me.

I would be willing to bet that the men would gladly trade Gary for Latoya. She is an asset to a team that knows how to use her. She seems to really know how to step it up when the execs are around. I don't think she should win because she lacks the ability to lead stronger personalities, but she can be a great worker bee if placed in the right area and shown a little respect. A good leader also recognizes that you can't tear your team down and expect them to be happy to perform for you afterwards. Makes me feel as if none of the women are fit to win. A team leader recognizes that not everyone is strong overall, they take the bits and pieces of each person and use their strengths to build a powerful work force.

My son is white and he used to have a black girlfriend who would complain she wasn't "dark enough". She was beautiful IMO but that's what she said. She was the same color as LaToya and did NOT bleach her skin!

I got irritated at her one day when she told my son he was "too white". I told her "well, he is supposed to be white..."

People are the color they are.

    This is what Nene said:
"the only reason you've gotten this far is because of your last name and you faked it for fifty years. You are very old and you need to play your age and not 12. You are a (sic) old lady."

To me, Nene insulted LaToya for her age, among many other things.
Nene pulled out all the stops. Her tirade was chock full of insults of every kind. Shame on Nene.

Is this how NeNe acts on the Real Housewives of Atlanta?

That cracked me up when Star said this - just as her own team was self-destructing.

The women's team has had far more self-destruct moments than the men's team - the men have to deal with Gary, but besides that they get along and work very well together, and when they can get Gary to focus, he can be helpful to the team - whereas with the women, they often spar about the smallest things - eg. Dionne getting cranky about Hope being in the wrong trailer. Marlee had shown her exasperation about not having her ideas used. They tend to be far more catty, but when it comes to tasking, the majority step up and put the pettiness aside, but it's always lingering.

Right now, I see Latoya their weakest link. She never wants to do anything - but she is good at promotion/sales so that's where she shines. I'd like to see Hope do more than 'get the props'. She needs to step up as PM and let us see how she deals with Starr, NeNe and Latoya.

She's far worse on "housewives", sad to say. At least she didn't jump up and loom in Latoya's face, finger wagging, as she so often does.
