    Bret Michaels - Season 3

"If you're going to freak out, have a rock star freak out."

Bret Michaels is, if nothing else, a true survivor. He has survived a life-long battle as an insulin-dependent diabetic, a well-publicized near-fatal car crash and the countless musical trends and fads of the last two decades.

The 46-year-old award-winning, multi-platinum superstar singer, songwriter, producer, director and actor has been in the business for over 20 years and continues to move at warp speed.

Michaels' "Rock of Love" television series is one of the most successful in VH1's history. With three record-breaking seasons under his belt, Michaels is currently embarking on several other television projects, including the upcoming "Bret Michaels Show."

As front man for the legendary rock band Poison, Michaels has sold 25 million records and scored an amazing 15 chartbusting Top 40 singles including "Talk Dirty to Me," "Something to Believe In," "Nothing But a Good Time" and the timeless #1 smash "Every Rose Has Its Thorn," which he is currently in the studio re-recording with Miley Cyrus and producer John Shanks for her upcoming album.

In the new millennium, Poison's music has been featured in such big screen flicks as "Mr. and Mrs. Smith," "Grandma's Boy" and "Deuce Bigelow-European Gigolo." They continue to be one of the industry's top-grossing concert attractions and their "20 Years of Rock" CD was a bona fide Top 20 smash.

Michaels has also produced and written material for other artists, including Stevie Nicks. He wrote and produced the song "Love's a Hard Game to Play" which appeared on Nicks' platinum album "Timespace: The Best Of Stevie Nicks." More recently Michaels could be heard providing background vocals along with Phil Vassar on the Kenny Chesney/Uncle Kracker duet single "Last Night Again."

Always creating, Michaels formed a film production company with actor Charlie Sheen. The partnership ultimately led to Michaels' writing, directing and starring in several films including "A Letter from Death Row" which he executive co-produced with Sheen.

As an actor, Michaels has made regular appearances on such hit television shows as "Yes Dear," "Martial Law," "The Chris Isaak Show" and "Don't Forget the Lyrics." He has also co-hosted "Access Hollywood" and been a judge on the wildly popular "Nashville Star" program.

Setting his musical sights beyond Poison, Michaels released his debut solo album "Songs of Life" in 2003 followed by the Americana flavored sophomore record "Freedom of Sound" in 2005 and "Rock My World" featuring the smash hit "Go That Far" in 2008.

Michaels will release his autobiography, "Roses and Thorns: The Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy to My Reality" in 2010. He also tours constantly with his solo band.

"I would play music whether I made it in the industry or not," Michaels told a journalist and it's that commitment to his art that continues to keep him at the forefront of the entertainment industry.

When Bret was six years old he was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Today, he must take four shots of insulin a day and must always be in control of his blood sugars, oftentimes testing his blood up to six times a day. Because diabetes is such a major part of his life, Bret feels it's his duty to raise money and awareness for the American Diabetes Association. With the ADA, Bret has a fund which sponsors diabetic kids and sends them to camp where they can meet other kids with similar conditions and have unlimited access to nurses and doctors who are there to help. When Bret was initially diagnosed with diabetes, his mother was an integral part in forming these diabetic camps, so Bret hopes to carry on the tradition.

I have never watched "Rock of Love", and don't have any of his music. I mean, I know of him, but that is about it. Perhaps I live under a rock....

Anyway, from what I have seen so far, I really like him! He seems honest, funny & really nice.

I love Bret. I always assumed Rock of Love was a joke, not a let's-pretend-it's-for-real mating game like The Bachelor. I mean, the women were seriously nuts. Anyway, he made it through the hair-metal '80's to now with a career still intact, so for that alone he's awesome. Man-ho or no, he really comes off as a nice, fun guy. Not everyone's cup of tea but he's the one I'm rooting for this season.

I never watched Rock of Love, but I give this guy a lot of credit for constantly reinventing himself.
    I really like the guy.

I love Bret Michaels - in both Poison and out on his own (he is a ball in person). Rock of Love was a hilarious disaster of epic proportions (sorry, I love that phrase). Last week he looked totally beat. I think he fully expected to go home. I was relieved he stayed. I've never watched this show - but a guy with long hair (yes, I know it's fake), rock n roll bandana - and eyeliner...how can I not watch?

I didn't know his hair was fake. I guess that is why he is never without the bandana.

Love Bret Michaels on CA and hope he wins. As someone else wrote, I've never watched his program or own any of his music, but he has sold me as a person, thanks to this show.

I have never seen Rock of Love, and was not a fan of that kind of music, but Brett Michaels seems like a nice guy. I was glad that he stayed instead of Blago last night!

I'm beginning to like him, too. Hope he hangs on much longer.

As a Type II diabetic, myself, I can only imagine how emotional Brett will be on next week's show when he finds out his daughter has been diagnosed with Type I diabetes. (In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if he chooses to leave the show and go home to his child.) It's not the death sentence it used to be but this isn't the news any parent wants to hear. So sad... That said, hopefully the editing of the preview is incorrect. We can only hope.

What I would like to know is, is he still with Taya? I see she tweeted she's going to introduce him at an upcoming show, but does that mean they're still together?? Anyone know?
