NBC's 'APPRENTICE' TO RECRUIT IN CHICAGO JUNE 28

NATIONWIDE SEARCH FOR AMERICA’S NEXT BUSINESS MOGUL COMES TO CHICAGO AS NBC AND EXECUTIVE PRODUCER MARK BURNETT GIVE BRIGHT COMPETITORS CHANCE TO LEARN FROM TYCOON DONALD TRUMP IN NEW UNSCRIPTED SERIES ‘THE APPRENTICE’


NEW YORK -- June 25, 2003 -- NBC will continue the process to find America’s next business tycoon - one who will win the chance to earn a six-figure salary while learning from international tycoon Donald Trump - with a Chicago Open Call at NBC Tower (454 N. Columbus Drive), Saturday, June 28, from 12pm - 5pm, to choose the finalists for the network’s new unscripted series “The Apprentice,” from executive producer Mark Burnett (“Survivor”).


In “The Apprentice,” approximately 16 candidates from all walks of life, including everything from Ivy League M.B.A. graduates to street smart entrepreneurs with no college education, will endure a rigorous selection procedure as they are tested for their intelligence, chutzpah and street-smarts. They will face the challenges of living together in close quarters, must complete sometimes humorous but always difficult job assignments and will be forced to think outside the box in order to outshine each other to get to the top.


Prospective applicants should: be able to take risks, bounce back after failing, succeed in a cutthroat environment, go against the tide, remain focused, think creatively and be a leader.


Once selected -- and after being divided into two teams -- candidates on each week’s team who did not successfully complete the job assignment, will meet face-to-face with Trump after each round of competition as they endure a grueling interview session with Trump and some of his key executives. Each week Trump will “fire” one candidate.


In the season’s final episode, one promising and ambitious person will emerge supreme and will be awarded a prestigious, year-long dream assignment -- and a six-figure salary -- that accompanies the status of becoming “the apprentice.”


Contestants must be legally eligible to work in the United States and live in the United States; must be at least 21 years of age; must be in excellent physical and mental health; must not now be a candidate for public office and must agree not to become one until six months after initial broadcast of all programs in which you appear, if selected as a player.

I like the idea of this show. Most reality show contestants are just actresses and actors looking for a way to get their mug on tv; this weeds them out (unless they are a REALLY good actor!). Plus, they have a future afterwards. They get a year long job and they have a year to prove that they deserve a permanent position. Pretty good stuff, worst part of it is having to look at Donald Trump every week. Hopefully he will be just a small part of it.

Best part of this is that the rules do not seem to state you have to be US Citizen. We might finally get some international flavor to reality TV
