That was my point in my original post about the ads, actually. The men's ad was definitely more professional looking, but didn't make me want to adopt a dog. I saw that dog in his happy home and thought "good for him, lucky dog". The women's ad, however, though less professional looking, had me snivelling for the poor homeless pups and wanting to take one home. Even though Finley and the Harv would kill me .

Personally, if I were the person in charge of actively trying to find dogs new homes, I would have chosen the women's ad.

For me, between the two, I would have to go with the men's ad. A good message delivered badly is as good as no message at all. The men's ad may not have addressed the actual problem as well as the women's ad, but the viewer may have stayed around long enough to watch it, or because of Trace, listen to it. The message may have been more subtle, but with the compelling (to a pet lover) visuals and audio, the viewer may well have stayed around long enough to hear it. And, Pedigree would have made the sale. That is, after all, the 'real' point of the ad.

Although the women's 'message' was stronger, it was so badly produced it is doubtful any viewer with access to the remote or a refrigerator would have watched it. From Pedigree's point of view that would be unacceptable. I understand that the 'spoken' goal was to get pets adopted, but the reality is, Pedigree is in the business of selling food. The evidence is in how they ended each ad.

In the end they both fail miserably when compared to an effective ad like the Sarah McLachlan ad for the ASPCA. I HAVE to change the channel when that ad comes on or I'll be in my car, on the way to the nearest shelter before the ad is over.

Finley and Harv may nor be so hard on you if you bring home a cute little girl kitty.

The ad for...dang, I have no idea which organization is, but the one about stopping animal cruelty around the planet has me actively crying every time I see it. I'm actually starting to well up thinking about it. That's probably why I feel more for the women's ad - homeless puppies (and kittens and bunnies and...) make me cry and want to save them all. Hence my substantial donations to the WWF every year.

Actually, we have a couple of very cute little girl kitty visitors to our home on a regular basis, and the boys are not happy about it at all .

Hydra's ad was just on tv. As promised, during the Westminster Dog Show. Trace Voice-of-God sounds great!

Did they clean it up at all or did they leave it as originally produced?
