One thing I noticed (and I hope its NOT a pattern) is that we got almost NOTHING about the "mechanics" of the task. What it took to get the hot dogs and buns. If they needed to get permits (okay, maybe that last part is never a concern with this show). Them actually COOKING and serving the dogs. You know, the nitty gritty.

Maybe this show really DOES need the 90 minute format its often had in the past. Because we got precious little real content. And its not like the show wasted much time introducing these people--it didn't. We "met" them through title cards for the most part.

I actually enjoyed this show a lot more than I thought I would, and your recap definitely helped with that.

At the very end of the show after the credits it said something to the extent of "In NY City permits and food safety training are required for sale of food from carts". The producers at NBC paid a bleep load of money to wave the permit requirement and contestants received a brief food safety class.

I am of course paraphrasing a little, but that is basically what it said. If anyone still has it on their TIVO® please check it out and get the correct wordings (or I guess you can watch it on NBC.COM maybe...

I found the episode on a "beta site" called HULU.com and at 42:52/42:52 this is what it said about the carts.

"Vending from a cart or vehicle in NYC requires inspects food training, permits, and licenses. For the purpose of this episode, the department of health granted special permission for the contestants to vend, trained them in safe food handling and inspected the carts."

This is in the same area as "contestants are informed about the rules..." and "portions not effective out come have been edited..."
