Your latest book purchases
I figured we could use this thread since there are similar ones in the forums dedicated to movies and music. What was (or were, as is always the case with me) the latest book(s - again, in my case) you bought?
I don't know about the rest of you, but my book purchases tend to come in twos... or threes, or fours, or... you get the picture. For some reason, I simply cannot buy just one book. Since I mainly buy paperbacks, I justify this behaviour by telling myself that I get several books for roughly the same price as one measly hardcover. To prove my point, here are my latest book purchases:
- One Good Turn by Kate Atkinson (very excited about this one!)
- The Undomestic Goddess by Sophie Kinsella
- The Other Side of the Bridge by Mary Lawson
- The Divide by Nicholas Evans
- Dedication by Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Krauss (authors of The Nanny Diaires)
That should keep me occupied for a while. :)
Re: Your latest book purchases
Last week I purchased:
Baby Proof - Emily Griffin
Something Burrowed - Emily Griffin
Something Blue - Emily Griffin
The Favored Child - Philippa Gregory
Meridon - Philippa Gregory
Lord of Scoundrels - Loretta Chase
Sea Fire - Karen Robards
The Raven Prince - ?
The Duke - Gaelen Foley

I can't wait to start reading. I think I'm going to start with Lord of Scoundrels. Besides the above books there are over 30 other books I purchased recently.

I snatched up a few Agatha Christie paperbacks at a flea market the other day. My Christie collection is almost complete now. :nerd

Being a huge Wizard of Oz fan, I didn't care for Wicked. I know a lot of people that loved it, but even if I was not a WOO fan, it's not the type of book I read anyway. Loved the Time Traveler's Wife.
I don't buy books often as I am a devoted library goer, but I do buy stuff that I have read and loved (so I can read them again) and I do buy a few authors on a regular basis.
I just bought from my favorite site for used and new books at deeply discounted prices (half.com)
The Few by Alex Kershaw. It's about the Americans that defied the government, risked their citizenship and fought as pilots in the RAF in the Battle of Britian before the US entered WWII. It was very interesting. Some of those pilots didn't get their citizenship back until the 1970's.
The book title is from a quote by Winston Churchill referring to all the pilots in the battle of Britian: "Never have so many owed so much to so few" (I may have paraphrased a bit)
Re: Your latest book purchases
My latest book purchase is Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow by Peter Höeg. I bought it in Swedish having once read it in English to see if it's even better in a language so near the original :).
Re: Your latest book purchases
I just bought Talking God by Tony Hillerman
Re: Your latest book purchases
I got a little raise at work and so, rather than saving the money, I went a bit crazy at Borders last night. :teeth
Here's my list:
The Twelfth Card - Jeffrey Deaver
The Thief Taker - Janet Gleeson
Both of these were in the $1 bin
Imperium - Robert Harris (:hiya William - I will give you my review when I finish!)
The Russian Concubine - Kate Furnivall
A People's History of the United States - Howard Zinn. I've been hearing about this for years, so I decided to finally see what the fuss is about.
Those last three were buy 2 get one free, so I did do a little bargain hunting.
I also picked up a great coffee table book on Tutankhamun for my 7-year old nephew ($9.99 thankyouverymuch!) who is currently obsessed with all things Egypt.
I think I'm set for a while. Of course, in October, my boss and I are going to a book fair in the Bay Area, so I'll surely be coming home with dozens more books. :yay
