Re: Your latest book purchases

I'm reading through all the Vinyl Cafe books. They are hilarious, you should check them out if you can.

Thanks! If I like this one as much as I did Sarum, I'll definitely pick up his other stuff too!

Re: Your latest book purchases

I'll be reading "What Is The What" by Dave Eggers... it's the book assigned to the incoming Duke freshman this summer. (So we have something to talk about once we arrive on campus all jittery and new.) I'm pretty psyched since I've only heard good things about it, and it's one of the first books I get to read without having to analyze literary techniques and whatnot. I'm embarrassed to admit I'd only heard of Dave Eggers from the movie John Tucker Must Die.

Ask the Dust - John Fante
Rant - Chuck Palahniuk
Virus (also known as The Missing, I think) - Sarah Langan
The Last Summer (of you and me) - Ann Brashares

Also, and this is a tad bit embarrassing, I couldn't resist buying that Tori Spelling autobiography. I ordered it online though, as I couldn't imagine myself being able to buy it in a store with a straight face. Has anybody read it?

Secret Lives of Great Authors. Its full of interesting tidbits; I never knew J.D. Salinger was a pee-drinker, or that Ernest Hemingway's mother dressed him as a girl for the first few years of his life. Great stuff, really.

The special edition of Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer.
Even though I already have a copy of the original Eclipse, I bought it just for the first chapter of Breaking Dawn. I'm really happy with the poster for Breaking Dawn that came for it. Since it's so pretty, I'm actually going to frame it.

I've been trying to read the 'classics' so I got 'A Tree Grows in Brooklyn'. It was interesting to see what life was like in turn of the century New York.

The Sojourner by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings.

Beautiful book. Beautifully written, beautiful story. Fell in LOVE with it.

Re: Your latest book purchases

As summer is coming and we'll be travelling a fair bit, I bought some road reading - The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova (got it for $4.27 ), Snuff, the newest from Chuck Palahniuk, and Gregory Maguire's Wicked. I also bought my 9-year-old the first Harry Potter book, which I plan to read after she finishes with it. I've yet to read any of them.

Geek, let me know how you like Rant. I love Palahniuk but I didn't love that particular book.
