I have this book. I got it for Christmas '04 and devoured half of it in a day. (I read pretty darned fast.) Far from being the creature that I was frightened-out-of-my-head of as a child, Elphaba seems like someone I'd want to be friends with in this book.
I got this book based on this thread, and just finished it. I loved it, and couldn't put it down. I found Elphaba to be a very sympathetic character, and I'll never see the Wizard of Oz in the same way again. Although like others of you, I don't quite see how someone would read this and think, "musical." :shrug
My copy includes an excerpt from a sequel, "Son of a Witch," coming out in October.
Hard for me to get into...really enjoyed Confessions of an ugly step sister. Cinderella is no longer the innocent in my mind!! Getting ready to start on "Lost" by the same author. Any one read this one yet??
Alright, Lucy! I can't wait to read Son of a Witch. Did it look good?Quote:

Thanks, Lucy! Have you read Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister yet? I thought that was the best of all, really. It had a shocking plot twist to it.Quote:

I'm about a third of the way through Lost and I may give up. So far, I hate this book. It's not drawing me in, it's not making a great deal of sense and the writing is just odd.
I only picked up Lost because every other book by Maguire was checked out.
