What is your favorite mystery series/hero?

Pardon my thread spamming, but I got to thinking about this while I was in the John Sanford thread...

I'm ALWAYS looking for new murder-mystery series...when I read one I like, I immediately go out and find the others in the series (thank god for interlibrary loan...)

So, who is your favorite mystery hero? Or mystery series? (And is it protagonist? I can't remember...)

Here are some of my favorites to get the ball rolling:
-The two characters from the Dennis LaHane books
-Of course, Scarpetta from the Patricia Cornwell series
-Right now, I'm reading about Myron Bolitar from the series by Harlan Coben
-John Sanford's Prey series

There are others, but they're slipping my mind at the moment. Who's your favorite?

Tough question...I love most mysteries. I love the Stephanie Plum series, Kinsey Milhone, Patricia Cornwell...I like em all.

The Stephanie Plum series is great brain candy. In that same vein are two others I forgot:
-Bubbles Yablonsky from the Sarah Strohmeyer Bubbles series
-And the guy who does the "The Hearse You Rode In On" series...name escapes me at the moment.

If you like Evanovich, you'll like those two.

I have to go all the way back to the most classic of mystery heros, Sherlock Holmes.

I haven't read Holmes since High School. Maybe I should go back and read about him. And all those ...erm...Agatha Christie books I read back then.

Ahh, good all Agatha. Another classic.

Now they seem cliche and cheesy to some people, but I still love them. I always keep in mind that when Conan-Doyle and Christie were writing them, the story ideas were fresh and new.

I like all of the ones mentioned before plus the V.I Warshawski series by Sara Paretsky, Jim Chee and Joe Leaphorn series by Tony Hillerman, Anne Perry's William Monk series, Jonathan Kellerman's Alex Delaware series and of course John MacDonald's Travis McGee books. Oh yeah, Robert Parker's Spencer books are good too.

edited to add: I forgot about the Ed McBain 87th precinct mysteries. I think I've read all of them.

I also like Scarpetta from the Patricia Cornwell series.

Don't forget Nero Wolfe. I love Archie Goodwin as a narrator. Sometimes, he's even better than Philip Marlowe (by Raymond Chandler).

Is the Nero Wolfe series better than the TV show? I mean, the show was okay...but...eh.

I can't wait to go to the library and read some of these new suggestions.
