What are you reading? - Page 355

I just finished A Year Of living Biblically, and it was alright...a bit tedious, about 1/4 of it was just information, and I thought it would be more "story" mostly cause I dont like being informed when Im reading for pleasure haha

it was interesting though, and funny at parts.

Just started "Hogfather" by Terry Pratchett, also just started "Point Blank" by Catherine Coulter (again). Reading a book written by a friend of my brother, also. Just finished listening to "Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follett on audio.

No Country for Old Men. Wish I would have read it before I'd seen the movie. I'm not crazy about McCarthy's writing style but the story is compelling enough to make me want to finish it (though I know the outcome

).

Pillars of the Earth is one of my favorite books. I want to read the sequel and just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Wasn't there a discussion of Heather Graham on here at one time. I just read one of her books and found it interesting.

I'm reading Tawni O'Dell's Coal Run. I've only read Sister Mine by her and this one is definitely not as light-hearted. It's still very good, but much more serious than I expected. I'm also doling out Sedaris' When You Are Engulfed in Flames a chapter every few weeks to make it last longer!

Recently, I've read Arturo Perez-Reverte's The Flanders Panel (

) and N.M. Kelby's Murder at the Bad Girls Bar and Grill, an advance reader copy I just got in the mail. As you can tell from the title, it was silly and funny and a nice change from some of the more serious fare I was reading.

Critical - I enjoyed Sister Mine more then Coal Run because it is the more light hearted of the two and I missed the characters when I had finished (Varuka). I also wished she would write another book focusing on one of the other mine survivor's.

I just finished one of Jayne Ann Krentz novels "Orchid" written under the alias Jayne Castile. Am about to read James Patterson's Sundays at Tiffany's which I was finally able to pry away from my sister who loved it.

I've been reading Suite française for the last 2-3 weeks and am only half-way through. I cannot get into the story. Have any of you read it and liked it? I'm starting to wonder if it's because I took it in French. Still, I like the style of writing, so I guess it's just the story I can't get into. To tell you the truth, I was more interested in the foreword and in the story behind this book than the actual book.

Critical, if you really enjoyed Sister Mine, and find Coal Run a little sadder and not as good, definitely give her first book - Back Roads - a try. I feel like Tawni O'Dell wrote Sister Mine and Back Roads as a tribute to the people she enjoyed so much growing up in western PA, and wrote Coal Run to get out her anger at some of the hardships and problems faced by people in that region.

I'm an avid reader and avid reader of this thread so I finally decided to jump in to post. First, I didn't care for Suite française, either, and it was so highly reviewed. The second story was more engaging than the first, but overall, this book just didn't click with me. Second, Sister Mine was my favorite book of the summer; the combination of tough, sweet and cool is a delicious read. Also recently finished Eat Pray Love, which was very interesting although a bit self-obsessed. I'm currently reading a memoir called The Tender Bar by JR Moehringer. Great book.

I LOVED that book! So jealous that you are reading it for the first time.

Right now I am in the middle of three books:
1. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
