Okay, I've been to the library and they actually had American Gods, and since just about everyone has recommended it I've checked it out. I'll start it tonight.

Gonna die in this small town

Just chiming in about the Pride & Prejudice mini series. I actually own it because it's so good. Colin Firth is absolutely wonderful as Darcy.

Yeah, both P&P the book and P&P the miniseries are pretty good. Emma is better though, IMO.

I thought I loved Austen, and then I took ENGL348 (Literary Works by Women) during my summer here in Maryland. We analyzed Austen's works from so many contexts (feminist critical theory?!) it was nutty. If Austen is ice cream, I'd over-indulged.

OK, are there two threads about what you're currently reading? This thread looks TOTALLY unfamiliar to me! Anyway, I read a Nero Wolfe book while I was on vacation in Alaska. I'm still working my way through Darwin's Radio by Greg Bear, as well. And just yesterday, I purchased the graphic novel of Road To Perdition, which I've started to read concurrently with Darwin's Radio. It's really good. I haven't seen the movie yet, either, so I can expect some surprises.

Have fun with American Gods, Dinahann. Let us know what you think! I have Gaiman's Stardust and Neverwhere on my shelf, too, but I haven't read them yet.

Naus! I haven't seen you around in a while. Must. Get. Free. Of. FLOM. Forum.

Back on topic: I've been on an Orson Scott Card binge. Enchantment and Saints most recently.

Orson Scott Card! He rules. I assume you've read Pastwatch? I really liked that one.

That's the one book of his that I've never finished. I checked it out of the library right after I had a baby, and I couldn't concentrate. I guess I should pick it up again.

I think you should, yes. It has one of my favorite quotes ever in it. I made a little poster out of it and hung it on the wall in my cube years ago:

Happiness is not a life without pain, but rather a life in which the pain is traded for a worthy price.
That keeps me going sometimes, even when times are tough.
