There is zero story line. I wasn't sure it was possible to pack more smut into a book than 50 did. But apparently it is possible. And it's waaaaaaaay deep into that particular sub-culture too so it's definitely not for everyone.... in fact it's probably for very few people. I think it's a huge mistake that Amazon does in saying "if you like 50 you'll love this." Because reality is from what I can tell most people read 50 for the romance aspect(?) and that just doesn't exist in this book in the traditional sense.

So I guess it's what I'm reading and I'm well into the last book now. I find it interesting but for my own personal reasons. Unless people are heavy into that subculture I wouldn't advise going this direction but if anyone is... it's an interesting read.
I read that series.... that is the big reason I tell people who are all excited about 50 Shades... that I have read stronger stuff before!

For you & causingchaos - do you mean the Rice series is just smutty, or does it have some edge to it? I have no interest in 50, but I have liked some of Rice's past non-vampire work. A take on Sleeping Beauty sounds interesting but I'm not terribly interested if it's too porn-y.

I found very little plot line and many things I had not read before. It has been years since I read the books, but I would say they are porn-y.

The Sleeping Beauty trilogy is Rice's take on erotica. She wrote them under the pseudonym A.N. Roquelaure pretty early on in her career. Usually with that genre, the plot isn't the most important thing. Since they're calling 50 Shades "mommy porn," I'm not surprised Amazon recommended it.

    Re: What are you reading?

I finished reading everything that I had at home last week leaving only the dreaded Steven Erikson - Gardens of the Moon, I just can't finish this book for some reason. I really don't like moving to a new book until I've finished what I'm currently reading, even if it's terrible but I have tried to finish this one so many times now and just can't seem to get into it ...should have known better when I saw that it had a 5 page list of all the characters at the start to help you keep everyone straight! I was trying to wait until payday so I could stock up again but I just couldn't wait 2 more days, had to go to the bookstore at lunch. I picked up The Dragon Factory by Jonathan Maberry, I wanted to get his new one since I seen it in months ago but they are either super slow to reorder or my timing is terrible.

There is about zero story line and very heavy into to Master/slave relationships and heavy into BDSM. There is very very little traditional smut in this series that I can see. It's mostly all porny.

Thanks guys...I will give that series a pass, then. Anyway, I'm about to start Alice Hoffman's The Dovekeepers. The jacket blurb reminded me a bit of The Red Tent, which I loved.

I have always wanted to read The Red Tent. I even had it checked out once.

It's wonderful! I absolutely loved it!

Mira Grant's Deadline should be here any day now. It's going to take a massive amount of willpower to NOT put down The Night Circus (which I'm loving) and dive into zombie land!

    Re: What are you reading?

In theory I'm getting a free copy of The Hangman's Daughter and an advance copy of it's sequel. I'm kind of looking forward to a change of pace in the reading department.
