I think it's an unusually well-written book. I like reading about what life was like in the past. Also, the thought of time travel is intriguing. While I was reading the book, it was almost as if I was along for the ride!

Brandy's first husband bought it for her. Where he got it I don't remember.

OK Thanks libgirl. I could read a book about that mirror and its adventures! Recently I have finished Jonathan Kellerman's latest book, Vivtims. Great story with my favorite detective and doctor team! Victims (Alex Delaware, #27) by Jonathan Kellerman - Reviews, Discussion, Bookclubs, Lists

I just finished Into the darkest Corner. There were parts of that book , where I found I couldn't take a breath.

I bought The Mirror back in the late 70s from the Literary Guild book club! I loved that book so much I read it more than once, and I still have it, even though it's paper book jacket is falling apart. It's still one of my favorite time travel books, with my favorite being Connie Willis's The Doomsday Book.

That's one of my favorites too! It's right up there with Jack Finney's Time and Again.

The explanation is in the first two pages of the book. A boat docked in the San Franciso Bay after an implied trip from Asia. The captain didn't throw the mirror overboard... he then died. His widow thought that she was someone else, and was put away. Her house was sold. The guy that bought the mirror hanged himself. The mirror was stolen and ended up in a wagon headed for the goldfields. The mirror then ended up in a house that some people rented from John McCabe, Brandy's father. The renters left the mirror when they moved. The mirror would be a wedding gift for Brandy.

I loved that one, also. I have an entire shelf of time-travel books. Before The Mirror, the only time travel novel I'd ever read was The Time Machine by H. G. Wells.
