Re: What are you reading?

I just finished The Serpent's Take by Ariana Franklin. It's a fictional novel about a female doctor/coroner in 1150 England - under Henry II's rule.
This is the second book in the series, the first is called Mistress of the Art of Death. Both are mysteries as is the third one, Grave Goods (which I am about to start).
Very enjoyable. Serpent's Tale has some scenes with Eleanor of Aquitaine and her estranged husband.

I liked Stephenie Meyer's The Host, but not as much as Twilight. It was a bit strange in some parts.
I just finished Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Its a young adult novel, and thoroughly entertaining. I found myself unable to put it down and finished it in about 5 hours. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a book to read!

It is not a very long book, so maybe it will get thru the wait list faster then you expect!

Re: What are you reading?

My daughter read and loved those. My ex had a fit when he found her with the Sex God one. I'm currently reading a YA series similar to Twilight called Night World (3 volulmes, 3 stories each) by L.J. Smith. My Little Sister was reading the first one, lent it to me, then saw they were selling the other two at Walmart and really wanted them. I read the one she lent me and decided to pick up the other two, read them and give them to her. She'll be thrilled.

Re: What are you reading?

My older daughter is reading those Night World books as well, Gut. Is it worth reading? I glanced through one volume to make sure it was okay for her to read but I haven't delved into them.

Great choice Duxxy, I just finished Grave Goods and thoroughly enjoyed it.

If you read and enjoyed Twilight you might like these. "Night World" refers to vampires, werewolves, witches, and shape shifters. Each book has 3 stories and some of the characters are related from story to story. I was only going to read the first book, but I got hooked and wanted to see where the whole series was going to go. They were only $7 at Walmart ($9 on Amazon). I couldn't find them at the library or the bookstore. Very easy reading. Perfect for me right now.

I think some people might think it gimmicky, but I think it is kind of cool and unexpected. It is about a girl growing up in Germany at the time Hitler is coming to power and I believe the story will continue throughout the war. I think it will be a bit challenging for my son that it was intended for, but only because the writing includes A LOT of metaphor and I have seen this kind of style frustrate him in the past.
Interesting to read this post as my daughter's boyfriend's mother gave her this book for her 19th birthday and told her it was one of the best books she'd ever read. Don't know if my daugther's getting into it. Her idea of summer reading is stuff like Firefly Lane. But at least we have a copy in the house!

I also think it's hard to buy books for people for gifts, unless you know it's something they want to read. Should you foist your reading tastes onto someone else, especially in the case of someone you don't know real well?

This is a good question. I don't tend to buy books for someone unless I'm confident of their reading preferences. My hubby only reads non-fiction. When he invests his time in reading, he wants to learn something. Me, I want to escape into some other world, hence why I like paranormal stories. I have friends that only read historical fiction. We're all different and thankfully, there are millions of titles to choose.
