I have the new Janet Evanovich already on reserve at the library. I just started Phillip Margolin's Executive Privilege. He's one of my faves. Writes pretty dark legal thrillers. Gone but Not Fogotten is one of his best. I was so sad for Mr. Margolin. On the dedication page of the book, he explains to the reader that his wife of 38 years passed away a year and a half ago.......and that 'she lives on in my heart.' He also makes some glowing commendations about her in this dedication. I was so saddened by this - 38 years is a very long time to be with a spouse.

| Re: What are you reading? I'm planning on buying it when I go to her book signing in Cherry Hill (NJ, natch) on 6/23 -- the very day it goes on sale. I get all of my books from the library except for hers because she always holds a book signing somewhat close to where I live & I like saying hi & having a signed copy. |

| Re: What are you reading? I finished Joe College. It's not as neat as Election or Little Children, but I really liked it, in spite of myself. The protagonist is a selfish bastard from beginning to end, and yet. I kind of empathize with him, understand him, root for him anyway, even though I empathize with his family and girlfriend much more. Tom Perrotta is an excellent writer. I enjoyed his take on all the complex values and relationships, the whole upward mobility problem of college for a working-class kid.

| Re: What are you reading? I listened to the audiobook of The Host and thoroughly enjoyed it but the reader really made the characters come alive. It is a very long book and I did take a rest about halfway through.

| Re: What are you reading? I love audiobooks! They are good to have when you're doing serious housecleaning (I talk back to the books!) and driving around doing chores/taking trips. One of my first was Delores Claiborne, which was terrific! And, no, I don't talk back when I'm at the movies! ![]()

| Re: What are you reading? I am half way through "I Capture the Castle" by Dodie Smith. It is a charming book. It was written in 1948 and set in a small village in England in the 1930's. The narrator is 17 year old Cassandra. She spends most of her free time writing in her journal, which is what we hear. Her family lives in an abandoned castle, and they are very poor, often going without enough to eat. There are quirky characters and so much life and love, it's a gem. J.K. Rowling recommends this book on the front cover. It was reprinted in the late 90's. |

| Re: What are you reading? I am reading "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak. My aunt sent it to one of my kids for Christmas so I picked it up and started reading it. So far, it is VERY interesting. It captured me right at the beginning because it is narrated by Death and there are all of these interjections through the book with little added tidbits of information. I think some people might think it gimmicky, but I think it is kind of cool and unexpected. It is about a girl growing up in Germany at the time Hitler is coming to power and I believe the story will continue throughout the war. I think it will be a bit challenging for my son that it was intended for, but only because the writing includes A LOT of metaphor and I have seen this kind of style frustrate him in the past. |

| Re: What are you reading? Slogging my way through Anita Shreve's A Wedding in December. It's not really holding my interest, obviously...I really have to get to the library. I reserved The Reader but I'm something like number 1,453 on the hold list so I think I'm off to Indigo soon.I'm reading Jillian Michaels' Master Your Metabolism as well, but that's for health reasons, not for pleasure so it's also slow going. Very good, though, lots of excellent information and just incorporating a few of her rules has produced results.
