I don't expect every loose thread to be resolved at the end of a novel, but I really didn't feel any sense of resolution at the end of this story.
My feelings as well, I enjoyed it but was a little disappointed with the ending.

I am reading a recent Carolyn Hart mystery cozy, entitled "Ghost at Work" but angel at work might have been a more appropriate title. It is sort of a "Heaven Can Wait" (movie) type of book, was a little slow for me at the start but that is because a new series character is being laid out so there is background info and descriptions. I am now more into the mystery of the story.

Re: What are you reading?

I had to put Drood aside to read a book for book club. We're reading Fitzgerald's Six Tales of the Jazz Age. I'd forgotten how much I love Fitzgerald's writing. These stories are little gems. I didn't see Benjamin Button, but I'm interested to read the short story. Once this is finished, I return to London and Mr. Dickens.

Re: What are you reading?

I started reading The Reader this weekend. I just got the movie from Netflix last week and I wanted to read it before watching the movie. So far I am completely disturbed by the pedophilia and abusive aspects of the story. I was not expecting it to start out this way. I think the fact that the narrator is the young person involved and didn't recognize the relationship as abusive and emotionally manipulative just makes it more unsettling.

Finished The Help last night and I really loved it. I enjoyed reading about the author's own childhood in the south and how that inspired the story. I was left wondering about poor Celia and how her life would unfold, but she really wasn't a main character. Otherwise, I liked the ending, even tho there were also some loose ends related to Skeeter's mother. I also thought the author's dialog and Southern accents was very believable.

Would highly recommend this book and it'll make a great book group selection once it's in paperback.

Drood is the only one and I'm only about 75 pages into it. I had to read a book for my book club, so I'll be starting back with the Simmons after tomorrow night. I hadn't even heard of him before Drood came out. Sorry to not be very helpful!

Re: What are you reading?

I just finished Dead and Unwelcome by MaryJanice Davidson the eight book in the Queen Betsy saga. Really good and dang cliffhangers all over the place. I am going to be waiting anxiously for book 9. And Aisling Grey Guardian series by Katie McAllister-You Slay Me, Fire Me Up, Light My Fire and Holy Smokes. A girl finds out she is a Guardian, Demon Lord and Wyvern mate when she goes to Paris to deliver a package and gets caught up in a murder and meets up with an arrogant dragon named Drake. Its a four book saga with lots of intrigue and romance.

Re: What are you reading?

I recently finished My Sister's Keeper and thought it was really thought provoking. Then, a few days later, they started advertising on the tv about the movie. I don't know if I want to see it.

I just started reading The Little Giant of Aberdeen County by Tiffany Baker. It's a large print. I'm just in the 1st chapter and can tell that it will be interesting.

You're right! It would make an excellent book club selection. There are just so many angles that can be discussed. The historical facts that so many people never learn about in school, the social relationships among ALL of the women, the social atmosphere of the times, period. I also could not under how Skeeter's mother was still alive with stomach cancer; this book was based back in the 60s when medical advancements were not nearly what they are now...so her mother should have died a fast death, as stomach cancer, even today, is a vicious, ravaging killer. It took me a minute to get used to the writing of the dialect, but it really does work. I'm surprised that Oprah hasn't picked up on this book...or has she?

Re: What are you reading?

Just finished Iris Johansen's Deadlock (audiobook). While I really like Johansen's thrillers I do think she is suffering a bit from "red shirt syndrome". Now you ask what is "red shirt syndrome". Well, in the Star Trek tv series is commonly acknowledged that the person wearing the red shirt in the opening scene is the one to die. In Ms. Johansen's case "red shirt syndrome" can be called "obligatory male friend/brother syndrome". If you are a male character and not the hero and appear in the first several chapters you will die a horrible death.
