    I've read 9 of these, and personally The grapes of wrath is one of the MOST overrated books of all time. It's not that I don't understand it (The symbolism, and metaphor [of which it is practically bursting]) it is that I DO understand.

    1984 was excellent, as well as catch-22 and lord of the flies. These, in my opinion strove less for a forced academia and were more well written books where symbolism and metaphor didn't have to be crammed into them, they simply occured naturally

    I am also suprised not to find Catcher in the Rye (J.D. Salinger) on this list, surely as influential as the book is, it deserves a spot here
