Fuller told the teacher that "high school was a joke" and he was going to be a professional surfer. After the debate, Fuller decided to home-school himself, and use his $150-per-month child support to move to the ultimate surfer's paradise - the North Shore of Oahu.
"My mother wasn't happy that I was coming here," said Fuller, whose father is a lifeguard on Oahu's North Shore. "But four years later (at age 19) she got to see me in the semis of the Pipeline Masters (the third leg of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing), so who was right?"
