Crossing Over

Posted 05-10-2008 at 08:38 AM by Jammie
Open up the paisley lot,

The light outshines each question.

The quiet droves a'call ye home,

The meadows of your destination.

From thin, silvery lines of sea,

To crackling dry ground of sorrow.

Unleash this peasant's lashing rain,

Lead me o'er unto the morrow.

A golden sparrow's bountiful sky,

A red dove's rainbow shining.

The reed's last stumble left away,

Across the midnight pining.

The LOVES of my life

Posted 05-09-2008 at 08:55 AM by Jammie
I LOVE my FAMILY: STEVE, CHRISTY and JENI - my CIRCLE of LIFE. I never appreciated family when I was YOUNG and rebellious but now that I'm older (still rebellious), MORE than anything I love and APPRECIATE the handful of people I know, am BONDED with and have GROWN to love in this big, sometimes cruel, world.

I LOVE NATURE: Walks on backwood TRAILS, CRYSTAL hunting, being LAZY by a RIVER, taking SCENIC pictures, country DRIVES. I LOVE simply GAZING out the window at a TREE and watching its LEAVES flutter in the WIND. This is my CHURCH. This is where I find PEACE.

I LOVE my dog, TIMBER. She's a 7 year-old Yorkshire TERRIER and is the most lovable 14 pounds of FUR I've ever known. Timber has NURSED me through BROKEN hearts, EARTHLY fears and many MOVES. I've COMFORTED her through labor and delivery of SEVEN yorkie PUPPIES (cuteness!), BOREDOM, the need to be LOVED and ordinary doggie MOODINESS. She and I are very much ALIKE in so many WAYS. ;)

I LOVE MUSIC that MOVES me. Stevie Nicks, various soundtracks (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind comes to mind), Clannad, some Annie Lennox, Sarah MacLachlin, Kenny Loggins (NO, not the 80s crap) when he changed his genre in the early 90s to a more spiritual anecdote, 311, Dilana, Natalie Merchant, Tom Petty, Ruby James...many more.

I LOVE finding people who are REAL and don't try to PAINT life as the pretty little PICTURE it's not. I LOVE discovering people who wear their GLORY and their flawed MESSES equally. Not that it matters or means anything because we're all quite similar whether we show it or not. It's just nice to see who people REALLY are right from the get-go. This is what really CONNECTS us, isn't it? We look at pretty pictures from a DISTANCE but we INVOLVE ourselves in REAL life, WORK with it and CREATE beauty out of it.

I LOVE cooking and baking. Lasagne, spice cake with cream cheese frosting, pot roast, fudge, etc. During my first marriage I received the gift of a WONDERFUL mother-in-law and grandmother-in-law who are true southern cooks and they inspired me. I remember saying to myself, "I want to be the person who makes the good meal where family/people come to share and the house feels like a hug."

When it strikes me just right, I LOVE writing. About 10 years ago, I was knee-deep in writing. I had one (humor) book published in 2003 but what I'm MOST proud of is a collection of poetry I wrote under the title: 'Sirilah...Garden of the Red Dove'. Back in 1998 I interviewed Billy Bob Thornton (love him!). All the other journalists were asking typical, mundane questions that Miramax fed them. I had been writing a lot back then and hit a wall so I asked Billy, "How do you get the ideas you have for stories from your head onto paper?" He looked me straight in the eye and replied, "Write from your subconscious." I swear it felt as though a lightening bolt hit me. I went home, put on a Stevie Nicks CD, lit some sandalwood incense (thanks David!) and 'Sirilah' was born.

I LOVE lifelong FRIENDS with whom I am BONDED, CONNECTED to and will be there ALWAYS even if we were to never SPEAK or SEE each other again. Kim, David, Kerrie, Callie, Sherry, Dee...to name a few. Some I haven't seen in 20 years and will never see again. It doesn't matter. And there are others who I may have only met once and may not even remember their name but there was SOMETHING about them that resonated in my SOUL. And there are those who have been there all along through THICK or THIN. My THREAD of LIFE.

I LOVE games and puzzles. I LOVE watching 'The Bachelor' NOT because I give two hoots about the actual show. I LOVE picking apart the promos and screen caps and figuring out the end result long before the last show airs. I LOVE little online games like Freecell. They're a good fix for my tireless mind.

I LOVE gardening. I enjoy planting herbs, flowers, veggies...ANYTHING! One year I had an AMAZING garden stock full of herbs like four different kinds of Basil, Rosemary, Sage and Lavender. If I remember correctly, I planted about 25 various herbs along with tons of flowers, roses, morning glory and a vegetable garden to boot. My fantasy garden includes a Sandalwood tree and an Orange tree. If you garden, remember to plant a little Lamb's Ear close to your mailbox.

I LOVE reality television. Yes, I know it's lame. Yes, I know it's shallow. Did I mention, I LOVE REALITY TV? Big Brother and American Idol are my favorites and I am completely addicted.

I LOVE (and have driven through, visited or lived in) Eureka Springs AR, Chatanooga TN, The Mayan Ruins/Teakettle in British Hondouras, Babcock Road in Malvern AR, The Caddo River, the Backroads of the Ozarks in Central Missouri and Hot Springs Arkansas, Bloomsburg PA when it Snows, Northern California with its Orange Poppies and Eucalyptus trees alongside the freeway and Jacksonville Florida for the first time I ever saw and experienced the OCEAN.

I LOVE smoking cigarettes, a great CUP of coffee after dessert, strolling through an ART gallery, THUNDERSTORMS, walking downtown in little, non-conventional, CHEERFUL towns, getting HIGH and talking PHILOSOPHY (though I haven't done this in years), baths, FLOWERS, pictures, creatively and artfully placed HOME decor, the MORPHINE drip in the hospital, CANDY and SWEETS of ALL kinds, MASSAGES, my HOMEMADE cup of hot CHOCOLATE (it is to die for!), sitting OUTSIDE with a COMFY sweater when it's 50-60 degrees, red BIRDS in the snow, SANDALWOOD candles and recognizing a KINDRED spirit even if a WORD is never spoken.

I LOVE little TRUTHS and thought-provoking QUOTES:

"Those who matter don't mind, those who mind don't matter",

From Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind:

Joel: I can't see anything that I don't like about you.
Clementine: But you will! But you will. You know, you will think of things. And I'll get bored with you and feel trapped because that's what happens with me.
Joel: Okay.
Clementine: [pauses then laughs] Okay.

From Shawshank Redemption:

Red: [narrating] I have to remind myself that some birds aren't meant to be caged. Their feathers are just too bright. And when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up DOES rejoice. Still, the place you live in is that much more drab and empty that they're gone. I guess I just miss my friend.

Red: [narrating] Andy Dufrene - who crawled through a river of shit and came out clean on the other side.

From Dogma:

Rufus: He still digs humanity, but it bothers Him to see the shit that gets carried out in His name - wars, bigotry, televangelism. But especially the factioning of all the religions. He said humanity took a good idea and, like always, built a belief structure on it.
Bethany: Having beliefs isn't good?
Rufus: I think it's better to have ideas. You can change an idea. Changing a belief is trickier. Life should be malleable and progressive; working from idea to idea permits that. Beliefs anchor you to certain points and limit growth; new ideas can't generate. Life becomes stagnant.

From Sirilah...Garden of the Red Dove:

"She danced in the abyss...and this is how light was created."

Untitled Song

Posted 05-09-2008 at 08:50 AM by Jammie
I wrote this song in the summer of 2006 and thought I had lost it but I found it underneath a bunch of other papers today. The melody in my mind that goes along with these lyrics is very 'Jewel'-like. That's about the only way I can describe it.

Pull down these blue shades and sigh

Another day is leaving fast

Lay down the darkness in my mind

Cuz I don't need it anymore, and

Open the stars up in the sky

Add some sparkle to the night because

WooHoo, the wilderbeast and I

Leavin' our troubles far behind

One step, let's see what we will find

Meet me underneath the willow tree tonight

Meet me underneath the willow tree, we'll fly.
