Posted 07-30-2008 at 03:29 AM by Harvest We recently saw the finale of The Next Food Network Star, after they scandalously posted the winner on their site a few days before the finale.
The consensus among FORT viewers is that they had made up their minds to have an "ethnic" winner regardless of how the contestants performed, and so they coached the winner, Aaron, to the hilt and hung the other finalists out to dry.
The Food Network (FN) also enraged the viewers by implying we would be voting for the winner as before, but the only vote available was for "fan favorite," while they decided who they were going to choose. Very disrespectful of their audience! All the lies and manipulations seem to be sticking in people's craws. I don't think we would all be posting such strong opinions if they hadn't been so scandalous.
I couldn't understand Aaron even when he was saying his own name. I couldn’t tell what his last name was, because every time he said it, it sounded like garbled goobledegook. The FN really blew it on this one. I do think it was a set up to get another "ethnic" host on their network. At this point I do not even believe the "fan favorite" poll results were accurate, as they had Aaron so far ahead of both Lisa and Adam.
(Other FORTers suggested subtitles, or a voiceover. I suggested the celebrity interpreter, like they have on the Geico commercial.)
We actually liked Adam for the first time in the finale. We thought he hit his pilot out of the park. Lisa (our favorite) seemed to have a patronizing sing-song in her pilot, which I did not notice in the filming segment, so I think they tried to torpedo her chances by showing a bad take... not that she had a chance, as they had clearly made up their minds beforehand. Even the way they positioned Aaron front and center at the "judging" showed they had already made up their minds.
To whoever said Aaron got more coaching in Vegas than the others, we think he also got more coaching from Gordon Elliot. Gordon even came up with the name for his show, as Aaron cannot seem to string together a coherent sentence, much less a coherent pitch.
His “pilot” was boring, and he was just reading things off a prompter that he never could have said on his own (remember he stands around like a lump when not coached). There was not one thing he cooked that I would be even remotely interested in eating, much less cooking.
Btw, on Aaron's FN profile it says he loves to cook with butter. Isn't Paula Deen enough with that??! So between the butter and the beef, if that is the kind of person they think viewers will want to get recipes from, I suggest they change their name to the FAT NETWORK!
They need to interview the Fast Food Nation and Omnivore's Dilemma authors and learn about the dangers of beef instead of showing all those beef recipes! |
