To lose one pound (a week)... If your net calories are -500 per day, meaning you burn 500 more calories than you eat, you will stand to lose one pound a week since your weekly total would be 3,500 calories. When you run a calorie deficit, your body will use stored energy (fat) in your body to function. How you do that, either through exercising more, or eating less, or some combo - it would work.
