Mike, at 62 years old and 309 pounds, says that poor eating habits, little exercise, job stress and the passing of both his parents all played a role in his weight gain. He was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the younger of two brothers, and said he has always been big, but has gained the most weight in the last 10 years. While attending high school, Mike was All-State in football and wrestling. He played varsity football at Western Michigan University where he received a degree in business education, and he later received a master's degree in secondary education from Indiana University. He has been a teacher and coach for the past 39 years and has been married to his wife, Christine - also a teacher - for the past 38 years. They have two children and recently have become grandparents. Now suffering from neuropathy, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and atrial fibrillation, Mike wants to get healthy so he can enjoy time with his wife, kids and grandkids for many years to come. He also looks forward to being more active in outdoor sports and running a 5K in Atlanta with his son and daughter-in-law.
