I'll take a stab-- competitive reality shows don't rerun well because the draw is the suspense of who will get eliminated. However, Losing It with Jillian isn't going to be a competition. She's just moving into the house for a week or whatever, so if it draws in viewers, they'll know that people are watching for reasons other than to find out who loses (possibly for the information in the program, or who knows what) and that they might be willing to watch a rerun.Originally Posted by MamaAmyG;3734797;
Right, or if they miss one week it is still interesting to watch some day in the future, because there's nothing you learned on a later episode that invalidates the "suspense" of this episode. It's like the Supernanny show...it doesn't matter in what order you see them, and some are interesting to watch a 2nd time, when you might be in a different place in your life.Originally Posted by Missyboxers;3734921;
Understand that I am not trying to dampen anyone's enthusiasm and readiness to get healthier in a reasonable and safe manner--
--but with Jillian's new book being released and her being touted as having good info about nutrition and health I tried to find out what educational background she's had to give her this expertise.
So far all I've found is her website which gives her "bio"--which makes no mention of any education that she might have had to make her an "expert" in this field.
Does anyone have any info on any credentials she might have that would give her expertise in this critical area relating to health and welfare?
Thanks in advance for any info on this.
here is the link to what I foiund on ehr own website--
TV's Toughest Trainer, Life Coach, Fitness Expert
I am not bothered by this. Self taught people can be more informed and skilled that someone with credentials. The story of two employees, one with a degree and the other without getting paid different salaries and the "uneducated' one is passed by for a promotion though he is better annoys me, happens everyday.Originally Posted by Wind Dancer;3735025;

If someone is presenting themselves publicly as an "expert" not only on tv but also in the marketplace--IE writing/selling books of supposed health "info"--then they'd better have some real credentials that give them the authority to tell people what is/is not healthy for their bodies.
Otherwise they're not much better than medical "quacks."
Reading Jillian's books and/or watching her lectures about health-related topics indicates that she does not have the best grasp on actual health-related info.
I had thought that the meat of her info was being edited out of the Biggest Loser shows until I saw a lecture of hers that played on PBS in which her presentation was disorganized and her actual factual content was sketchy to say the least.
I am continuing to do a search for info on what credentials she possesses to make statements about health and welfare issues for millions of people.
If anyone has any such info--please pass it along. I'd like to give her the benefit of the doubt because I know that a lot of people pay attention when she talks.
Thanks.
I found one fan site that had some info, which stated she has personal-training certificates from American Fitness Association and the National Endurance and Strength Training Association. It said she had previously worked as a motion picture literary agent with ICM.Originally Posted by Wind Dancer;3735035;

Aliie--hi and thanks.
I have looked and looked and all I can come up with is what you have and what I did earlier--that she has been a fitness trainer for some time now.
The info--such as it is--always is sourced to her website.
I guess we can conclude that Jillian has NO formal training or education in nutrition or biology or metabolism--all of which she often makes apparently "authoritative" public statements about.
It's one thing to have personal experience with something--I have some experience along those lines myself--and to acknowledge those are personal experiences.
And quite another to represent oneself as some sort of "expert" in the intricate and highly complicated subjects of nutrition and metabolism and health.
This worries me because so many people take her statements as coming from someone with expertise in this area.
All I want is for people to get the best info--and to understand that Jillian is hyped as an expert in order to make the show look legitimate--when in fact she has NO actual credentials along those lines.
Very worrisome IMO.
The premise of the show reminds me of BBC America's You Are What You Eat with Dr. Gillian McKeith.
"When life gives you lemons, squirt lemon juice in your enemy's eyes."
Ah, for just one time I would take the Northwest Passage.
I have Jillian's book "Master Your Metabolism". She doesn't indicate she has any education in regards to nutrition but she did work with many doctors, the main one being an endocrinologist, for many years for the "educational" part of her book. My best friend sees an endocrinologist and a lot of what he tells her Jillian mentions in her book. So, I gave her my book and she took it to him. He said she is right on in her book regarding what we should eat, how it effects our hormones, metabolism, mood swings, energy levels, etc.
