9/15 Biggest Loser Premiere Recap: Back and Bigger Than Ever

Hello and welcome to another season of The Biggest Loser! We finally had a little time to breathe before a new season started. Thanks, NBC! This season's theme is “second chances” and our ol' buddies Jillian and Bob will once again be back to whip these overweight folks into shape. So join me as we strive to once again find out the answer to that age old question: What have you done today to make you feel proud?

The show begins with the dynamic duo of Bob and Jillian dressed in black attempting to look tough and intimidating. They remind us that we are all fat, sick, lazy, slobs and that this season's theme is all about second chances. There is a heartfelt montage of all the things we are going to see this season. Oh great, the montages are beginning already. Blah. On a better note, let's meet our new cast of victims!

Sean, 29, Youth Pastor from Tulsa, Oklahoma
Has 2 kids and a baby on the way

Alexandra, 20, College Student from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

Danny, 39, musician from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma

Liz, 49, Grandmother and Salesperson from Chapel Hill, Tennessee
    Has 9 grandchildren

Rebecca, 25, Student and Nanny from Des Moines, Iowa
Tired of being the girl with the pretty face

Dina, 28, Custodian from Commerce, California

Antoine, 23, Health Insurance Agent from Dudley, North Carolina

Amanda, 19, Nursing Student from Butler, NJ
We voted this one in at last season's finale

Shay, 30, Social Worker from Newport Beach, California
Largest contestant ever on The Biggest Loser
    Formerly homeless

Allen, 44, Firefighter and EMT from Columbus, Indiana

Abby, 35, Teacher from Mabank, Texas
Lost her husband, daughter, and newborn son in a car crash

Daniel, 20, Student from Willow Spring, North Carolina
    Returns from last season

The new contestants are crammed into a bus and taken to the beach to meet Alison. They cheer, cry, hoot, and holler. They get off the bus and she tells them that they are standing on the same stretch of beach where last season's contestants finished their marathon. The finish line was a mile from where they are currently standing. I smell challenge! The new crop of contestants is going to race the final mile of the Biggest Loser marathon. The person who wins will get immunity at the first weigh-in and will also get to choose who their partner will be for the rest of the season. That partner will also have immunity at this week's weigh-in. Oh great, another partner season. That's original. Alison has another surprise for the contestants before they start. A limo pulls up and out jumps Daniel from last season. Well, that was a let down. I was expecting a big celebrity or something.

The contestants start out strong, but of course that burst of energy lasts about 5 seconds. Tracey takes an early lead, but Daniel is closing in on her. Many of them have to stop and take several breathers. Daniel finishes first, followed by Amanda and Rebecca. Hmm, looks like another crop of strong females. The others trickle in slowly, and Tracey is actually crawling in the sand. Once Mo crosses the finish line, he feels weak and the medic team has to hook him to oxygen. They check on Tracey who is still on her hands and knees. Amanda and Rebecca try to help pull her up, but she can't get up. Tracey keeps trying to stand up and eventually makes an attempt to half stand up. Everyone gathers around her to help drag her across the finish line. She looks like she is going to pass out. She crosses the finish line and passes out. They try to give her water but she isn't really responding. Yikes, she doesn't look too great. She can't even squeeze someone's hand or keep her eyes open. The medics call for a helicopter to take her to the hospital. Everyone is in awe that something like this could happen in just 1 mile.

The contestants are then carted off to the ranch. Alison announces that both Tracey and Coach Mo are doing well. I didn't realize he was taken to the hospital, too. They are going to stay at the hospital overnight for observation, but they will be back. Alison then tells the contestants that they are going to have an hour to get to know each other and then they will have to choose their partners. They swap life stories and share some tears.

It's time to pick partners! Daniel won the challenge so he gets to pick his partner first. He is going to keep his orange shirt from last season. He picks Shay. Smart move... pick the one with the most weight to lose. The players will pick based on the order they finished the challenge. Here are the new partnerships:

    Orange: Daniel and Shay
    Green: Allen and Abby
    Pink: Amanda and Rebecca
    Blue: Rudy and Dina
    Red: Antoine and Sean
    Brown: Liz and Danny
    Black: Alexandra and Julio
    Purple: Coach Mo and Tracey

Since it's the first episode, the players get to face the scale not once, but twice! We need to find out their starting weights and then later they will weigh in again to see how much they've lost. They enter the gym to find Bob and Jillian waiting. Here are the starting weights:

Pink: Amanda 250lbs and Rebecca 279lbs
    Total weight: 529lbs

Green: Allen 325lbs and Abby 247lbs
    Total weight: 572lbs

Black: Alexandra 309lbs and Julio 407lbs
    Total weight: 716lbs

Blue: Rudy 442lbs and Dina 253lbs
    Total weight: 695lbs

Brown: Liz 267lbs and Danny 430lbs
    Total weight: 697lbs

Red: Antoine 367lbs and Sean 444lbs
    Total weight: 811lbs

Orange: Daniel 312lbs and Shay 476lbs
    Total weight: 788lbs
Shay is the heaviest person ever to be on the show.

After the shock and awe at the weigh-in, it's time to work it out. The contestants are already going at it in the gym when Bob and Jillian tell them which trainer they will be working out with. Ready for this? BOTH! Both Bob and Jillian will be working with all of the contestants this season. Yay!! That's like double the trouble and double the crazy! Jillian is sure there is going to be blood. I can't wait! Jillian will scream and then Bob will flip out and swear! Yessssss!! I'm super excited about this new development. Jillian is already screaming f bombs at Shay while Bob is off yelling at the others. Rebecca is puking out the window while someone else is laying on the mat. Ah, I love the first workout.

Shay is on this crazy looking moving ladder contraption when she stops and whines that she can't do it. Jillian and Bob both give her a hard time and Jillian tells her if she wants to quit then she needs to walk out the door. Shay says she can't do it, she can't do it, whine whine. She stops and walks out the door. She is outside on the step crying and Bob and Jillian decide to take the kindergarten approach and just ignore her. They think if they give her attention it is just going to make her worse. Shay musters up all of her strength and walks back into the gym. Jillian screams and swears some more while Shay cries. Jillian is fired up this season! I love it!

When the workout is over, everyone heads back into the house. Coach Mo comes back and tells everyone he was dehydrated and had low blood sugar and low blood pressure. Sean gives Mo his purple shirt and tells Mo that his partner is Tracey. They are still worried about her because she's still in the hospital.

The Losers take a little trip to see Dr. H. Aside from the same old high blood pressure, borderline diabetes, morbid obesity, and shorter lifespans, there are machines to measure metabolism, hormone levels, and brain waves. They are at a special institute with all kinds of special fancy pants equipment to give them a thorough scanning. Sean finds out he has Type 2 diabetes. Mo is only 55 but he has the body of a 69 year old. Shay is 29 years old but she has the inner age of 45.

It's time for the very first last chance workout. This is going to be entertaining. Jillian tells Allen he's going to be her bitch all season. Oh, Jillian, how I've missed you. She tells Julio every time he falls down she is going to call him a bad father. Hmm. Whatever works. I still haven't seen any signs of Tracey. The contestants are very, very sweaty. Yum. I bet it smells real nice there. Jillian screams at Alex and tells her she isn't strong and Alex screams back that she is strong. In fact, she does so well that Jillian tells her she does a good f*&%ing job!! Jillian is quite the potty mouth this season. I love it. I want her to be my friend.

The contestants file into the gym for their second weigh-in of the show. This time they will find out how much they lost or didn't lose. They will weigh in as teams and it is their percentage of weight loss as a team that determines whether or not they stay above the yellow line. Only one member of the team below the yellow line will be going home. Ooooo tricky. Because Tracey is still at the hospital, Coach Mo will be representing the purple team. How did they do? Let's find out!

    Orange
    Daniel: Starting weight 312/Current weight 300 (-12)
    Shay: Starting weight 476/Current weight 459 (-17)
    Total: (-29) -3.68%
    Orange has immunity

    Pink
    Amanda: Starting weight 250/Current weight 244 (-6)
    Rebecca: Starting weight 279/Current weight 261 (-18)
    Total: (-24) -4.54%

    Blue
    Rudy: Starting weight 442/Current weight 414 (-28)
    Dina: Starting weight 253/Current weight 245 (-8)
    Total: (-36) -5.18%

    Red
    Antoine: Starting weight 367/Current weight 349 (-18)
    Sean: Starting weight 444/Current weight 422 (-22)
    Total: (-40) -4.93%

    Brown
    Liz: Starting weight 267/Current weight 257 (-10)
    Danny: Starting weight 430/Current weight 406 (-24)
    Total: (-34) -4.88%

    Green
    Allen: Starting weight 325/Current weight 306 (-19)
    Abby: Starting weight 247/Current weight 232 (-15)
    Total: (-34) -5.94%
Abby brings Jillian to tears because of what she's been through.

    Black
    Alexandra: Starting weight 309/Current weight 296 (-13)
    Julio: Starting weight 407/Current weight 394 (-13)
    Total: (-26) -3.63%

    Purple
    Mo: Starting weight 355/Current weight 336 (-19) -5.35%

The Black Team of Julio and Alexandra falls below the yellow line. She is pissed that Julio didn't lose more. Julio tells everyone that Alexandra deserves to stay, but so does he. He wants to be a great father to his children. Alexandra cries and says that she worked her butt off and she wants to stay. While everyone deliberates, Allen says that he hopes when he falls below the yellow line he isn't seen as a number just like he hopes they don't see Alexandra and Julio that way.

The silver platters are lined up. Let's see who gets the boot this week, shall we?

    Purple votes for Alexandra
    Pink votes for Julio
    Red votes for Julio
    Orange votes for Julio
    Brown votes for Alexandra
    Blue votes for Alexandra
    Green votes for Alexandra

With 4 votes, Alexandra is eliminated. That kind of sucks, she actually lost a decent amount of weight this week. She thanks everyone for all she has learned from them and says she isn't done with her journey.

Since leaving the ranch, Alexandra has started exercising and eating healthier. She has lost 60lbs. She admits that she had a crush on somebody while she was on the ranch but she didn't have the confidence to talk to him. She says we will have to wait and see who it is. Judging by her age and the marital status of the guys on the ranch, my money is on Antoine. I love Loser love. Alex hopes to reach her goal weight of 180lbs by the finale.

Next week, if everyone doesn't lose a total of 150lbs, 2 people are going home. If they do lose that much, nobody goes home. Hey, kick 8 people off next week. I don't care!

If all 15 people are there that is 10 lbs each and if Tracey is still out then its 10.71 lbs each and this is during the historically small weight lose second week. Gee, the producers know how to really torture the contestants. he he he ...

Thanks for all the stop action you must have done to get all those #s!!! And a great recap as per usual at FORT.
When Jillian was yelling at Julio for falling down all the time I thought she was saying "dead dad!"....as in he'd leave his kids orphaned or his own died young or something...OK, bad dad, a little less harsh!

PWS--I heard it as "Dead dad" too.

I'm not so sure it was "bad dad."

IMO only and others' opinions may vary.

Well, whichever, it just seemed to make him chuckle... not sure Julio has quite the right drive for the show.

Ashley--hi. That's okay. Don't worry about it. It was kind of mumbled or garbled or something happened that made it hard to understand.

Either one--dead dad or bad dad--was supposed to egg him on to work harder.

But if he is so laid back that neither helps him do more--well that is a problem for his survival in the contest.

My thanks for your work on the Recap. I appreciate that a lot and I know that others do too.
