Re: Big Brother 9 Cast Revealed!

Are they having a summer season as well - I thought that this winter edition was instead of a summer one. If this is true, you have made my night!

Re: Big Brother 9 Cast Revealed!

I am courious about the fact most people say they want older contestants. The majority of "older" people have mortgages, car payments, investments for the future (kids/retirement), kids payments that are in university, monthly bills, etc. I know that myself (42) & all of my friends could not afford to take time away from career/job to go on a tv show. OK, so I guess if I wanted to go I could always save up - but you know what If I am going to save up I am taking my family with me. I can't see any "older" adult wanting to go spend the summer wiht a bunch of whacked out people! JMO

Re: Big Brother 9 Cast Revealed!

I couldn't take off from work to be on the show, either. I'd get fired in a heartbeat. It would be nice to see more than the usual one or two token older folks, but like you said, most of us can't swing it. If I were still 20 and in college, sure.

And really, when has BB ever been diverse? It's almost always 90% young white people, one or two minorities, one or two 40 and above, and a gay guy thrown in for good measure. They never listen to us. Maybe by having a bisexual this year, they think they're being more diverse.

Sure, most older people have more commitments, but for the show to not find one or two among the thousands of applicants? That's a choice by the producers, not aimply "the way things are".

Plus, retired people certainly have the time. I guess thre trick is finding someone old who can still do the physical challenges.

I don't think I could ever find a retired person who would want to spend time with any of these (past or present) people. Regardless of their strength & stamina.

That's how I feel. I can also understand that the added exposure BB gives over other reality shows may prevent some people from wanting to do the show but really, there has to be people in their late 30's, 40s, and 50 or older that they can find who would do the show and be able to do it. Not only that, but as people have talked about diversity, they can surely find enough people of all racial backgrounds in their 20s if that's the age bracket they want.

She wasn't retired, but I remember BB5's Karen not talking too fondly of the types of people she lived with during her time on BB5. Mostly referring to how it was all about sex with most of them and nothing else. Karen was in her 30's I believe.
