Re: Possible Winter edition

Agreed, TOTALLY lame. I hope it's not true.

I made a joke a week ago about CBS using one of VH-1's garbage-can reality shows and saving some money. Sounds like they're finally getting into the garbage-can business for themselves.

Memo to CBS & Groedner: Just give us a Big Brother show, and let the normal people make the drama! It's not that hard, you've done it before. It's going to make you more money than reruns even if it turns out to be boring, so why tamper with the concept so much when there isn't even as much at stake this time? You're just filling empty air time!

Re: Possible Winter edition

Hi, fellow BB FORTers!

I've been meaning to come over here and check out what y'all were saying about the rumored winter edition of BB ever since I read about it in Entertainment Weekly - I was so excited! No one has really mentioned that article in this thread (that I saw), and I'm not sure how much new information it really adds, but this is what it said:

"O 'Brother,' Here Art Thou

Big Brother fans, it's time to start celebrating the Writers Guild strike. A reliable source says CBS is quietly preparing for a ninth season of the reality show that could begin airing in late January or early February if the work stoppage persists past the holidays. It's easy for CBS to fire up production on the series because it owns the house (which is located on the network's Studio City, Calif. lot) and casts for the show year-round. We hear that executive producer Allison Grodner is already hiring production staff and Julie "Chenbot" Chen will, of course, return to host. As in seasons past, the network would probably air the show three times a week, although there's the possibility of adding more nights. If the midseason BB does go forward, it is unlikely to affect the show's regular summer run."

That's from the November 16th issue, the one before the current one, I believe. So, it answers a few of the questions.

There would still be a summer BB. And it's not going to be a celebrity version.

I think the reason they would wait until late January/early February is because the networks still have some new episodes of shows in their backlogs. No need to bring on "filler" until those run out. Don't forget that regular programming always changes during Thanksgiving week, Christmas week, and New Year's week.

I also don't think ratings for a winter BB can even be guessed at - the circumstances are so odd... you have a writer's strike, meaning much of the scripted competition will be gone, and it can't be that difficult to avoid American Idol, but you also have a show that has never aired during this time of year. Frankly, I don't think it much matters - we know WE will enjoy the poo out of it, and it seems that no matter how the show does, it won't affect the summer version, so who cares?

Anyway, I'm super excited about the prospect - it's been the one silver lining of the strike. Hope to see you all in BB-land soon!

I caught a commercial the other night where they were asking people to call to get on the upcoming Big Brother.

Re: Possible Winter edition

Yah if the rumored twist is true, I think it sounds lame. That is not Big Brother nor the premise of the show. Just put 13 people in the house and see how they are able to interact and cope with each other...

It's not possible, it's reality!

CBS Sets 'Jericho,' 'Big Brother' Returns - Premiere dates for 'Survivor 16' and 'The New Adventures of Christine' also set - Zap2it

Premiere dates for 'Survivor 16' and 'The New Adventures of Christine' also set
December 3, 2007

Skeet Ulrich of 'Jericho'CBS doesn't seem too concerned about the ongoing writers' strike, announcing a spring line-up that includes both the triumphant return of "Jericho" and a new installment of "Big Brother."

Let's get the important business out of the way: Rescued from cancellation by an outpouring of nuts, "Jericho" will begin its seven-episode second season on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 10 p.m. ET, airing in the time slot where "Cane" is currently struggling.

"Jericho," the story of a plucky band of Kansas survivalists trying to kick-start society in the aftermath of a nuclear attack, will capitalize on the lead-in of the first-ever winter edition of "Big Brother."

Hosted, as always, by Julie Chen, "Big Brother" will also premiere on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 9 p.m. ET, following "NCIS." Additional installments of "Big Brother" will air on Wednesdays and Sundays at 8 p.m., premiering on Feb. 13 and Feb. 17.

The Wednesday "Big Brother" episodes will take the place of "Power of 10," as the summer competition hit begins a string of new episodes on Wednesday, Jan. 2.

In general, CBS won't lack for new programming, even in the scripted department, as Monday, Jan. 28 will see the premiere of "The Captain," featuring Chris Klein and Jeffrey Tambor, and the Emmy-winning "The New Adventures of Old Christine," which will air at 8:30 and 9:30 respectively, as "The Big Bang Theory" and "Rules of Engagement" go on hiatus (unlike the other Monday comedies, they lack the necessary number of repeatable installments).

Also returning is the 16th edition of "Survivor," which will premiere from a yet-to-be-announced location on Thursday, Feb. 7.

Plus, CBS' big Monday (Dec. 3) scheduling release included a new air-date for the "Lonesome Dove" prequel "Comanche Moon," which will now be sacrificed to the premieres of "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" and "American Idol" on Sunday, Jan. 13, Tuesday, Jan. 15 and Wednesday, Jan. 16, from 9-199 p.m.

To recap, CBS' Jan. and Feb. scheduling highlights:

Wednesday, Jan. 2

8:00-9:00 PM -- "Power of 10" (Premiere)
9:00-10:00 PM -- "Criminal Minds"
10:00-11:00 PM -- "CSI: NY"

Re: Possible Winter edition

So the televised eps will be Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday. That's going to mean a change in the structure of the week in terms of nominations, competitions and voting.

It also means the weekends are probably going to be even deader than they already were on the live feeds...

Can't wait! I specifically held off cancelling Showtime in the event of this new season. There's no other reason to keep all those channels on my digital cable, the selection just isn't that good.

Re: Possible Winter edition

I wonder if they are going to do BBAD with this installment. I hope so because I don't do live feeds anymore. (Only have a work computer at home).

Re: Possible Winter edition

I'm pretty sure they will do the live (paid) feeds because that is a source of income for them.

Regarding ShoToo and AD, I'm hoping that they do that again. I'm sure the ratings they were getting were higher than the programming they were putting on before that. And it costs next to nothing to put it on.
