I have to say that this bugs me the most when it comes to James. Having watched my mother suffer for 2 1/2 years with breast cancer before she died it makes me ill to think that anyone would accept money that could be used to help find a cure for their own personal needs. The rest of it doesn't matter to me.

Regarding the live show last night, my husband was laughing so hard at James and Adam and the crying segment. I mean, c'mon people. It's a game and someone has to leave. You are either on the right side or the wrong side of the fence. I was somewhat touched that Adam has such a big heart though.

As far as the pink clothing.. His sponsor is a clothing company (American Apparel), they asked him to wear all pink clothes, pink shoes, and a pink mohawk, so he stands out. He has flyers and stuff that he hands out to people he meets, it says in the flyers what he is doing. He is promoting peace and non-materialism by helping people he meets in exchange for their help in getting him to the next city in his world/american tour. He says sometimes people just walk up and donate to him based on appearances (without him helping them).. and say "you're doing a good thing". He is a charity. He is doing this for a reason. They might think that he is representing Breast Cancer but if they read his flyer then they would know. Why does he get blamed for others ignorance? He also said that he has never been approached to be sponsored by the Cancer Foundation. Why is the color pink ONLY for breast cancer? I had ovarian cancer, my ribbon is purple. Youtube search string - BB9 James takes free stuff Josh: Rock On Breast Cancer Boy

I think its abmorable and scary as hell that he leaves home on a bike, with no money, to spread the word that we don't need to buy things, we can trade services, we can help each other. He is alone, in unfamiliar places, relying on the help of others to get him to his next destination, where he can spread the word there too... but only after he proves his point by helping those he meets. He is like a traveling good samaritan, who asks people to give back after his deed, so he can spread the love elsewhere.

Isn't that kinda what Jesus did. Maybe Nat should be worshiping him.

I am missing just what it is that James does that is good? Most of the people I know who are stepping out to help go somewhere that is known to need help, they go at their own expense and live on their own expense at no pay as well. James mission just doesn't fit with this idea. It sounds more like a backpacking trip. Also unless he has applied for and received a 501(c)(3) he really shouldn't be calling himself a charity. Perhaps I misread you and you can correct my misunderstanding. Thanks

Personally, I don't think it matters if you do it at your own expense or if some kind of company has offered to "sponsor" you (aka the pink clothing James wears). I think the important issue here is that he is actually out there trying to make a difference. Just because he isn't doing it on his own dime and just because it isn't a well known cause doesn't make it any less worthy in my opinion. I wish there were more people like that.

I think promoting non-materialism is an excellent goal, and that a lot of people could use a reality check in this area of life. My cousin is a typical 14 year old girl, if anyone compliments her on her clothing, she instantly rattle off the brand name of each particular article. Like anyone in the family actually cares, we would love her the same, and think her just as cute were her clothing from the Dollar General Store or Goodwill. But in her teenage life, it is very important. I see people bragging on their brand name clothing, electronics, whatever. There are so many young men whose ultimate goal in life is to "ride big rims" and "make it rain" on strippers, no concern how we make all this money we would flash around, the easier and faster the better. It makes me nauseous to see people so absorbed in meaningless material things. I think if someone pays $5000 for a dress, or article of clothing, or $50,000 for a watch, it is a sin against humanity. Why not get the $100 dress, or the $500 watch, you are still being extravagent IMO, and could use all that other "disposable income" to REALLY help someone, to improve there whole life possibly. We live in a nation full of greed and product worship. Our teens and far too many "adults" are completely enthralled in image and cash flow. I think they should teach non-materialism in schools, not that it would compete with all the flashy media bs we soak in on a daily basis.

And as far as the message of helping other people in our daily life, relying on one another as humans, I think there is a similiar message taught in Churches and Sunday schools across the country, but unfortunately not much practiced in daily life. That message is THE GOLDEN RULE, the commandment "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." even if they aren't wearing $10,000 eyelashes, carrying a Gucchi purse, or "rolling on 20's."

James with his foul mouth, nasty tattoos (not the fact he has them because I have two myself but because of what they are of), drug use, and porn (not that it's gay porn, just porn in general) is the last person I would choose as a role model for my kids even if he claims to be non-materialistic. I just can't consider him a positive influence even with his supposedly positive message. Maybe I just don't see what some others are seeing. I don't like any of the cast like I said before so I'm not saying I like him less than any of them. They all are disgusting. I've started missing the shows here lately on purpose which is a first for me.

No, I don't consider him a role model for anyone. But I think this message is positive, and his cause is as good as any other. And I think if someone wants to critize him, they have far better fodder than his journey, or his method there of.

But, while he is supposedly promoting "non-materialism", he is competing on a reality television show for $500,000. And, I have yet to see how it is he "spreads" his message. I have listened to clip after clip of his explaining his goal, and it just seems to go no where.

As previously stated, it seems more like a backpacking trip with the word charity attached so that he doesn't have to fund himself.

And, regarding the pink and breast cancer.. that is the color that is associated with breast cancer. Does everything pink automatically have to mean "breast cancer"... absolutely not. But, if someone gave me money thinking I was doing a good thing to help their cause, I would absolutely turn that money away, take that opportunity to explain what it was that I was promoting, and then hope that the kind soul wanted to help me out.

But, even worse than taking the money under false pretenses is the way that he spends the money. He uses is to pay for his bar bills and/or cocaine.... nothing about this guy is admirable to me. Nothing.

Admirable? No. Less repugnant than everyone else remaining in the house (with the sole exception of the stolid Sharon) and, as far as I can tell, everyone who has already left the house? Certainly.
