| Re: Possible Winter edition I'm conflicted. On one hand, it feels too soon. On the other, it's Big Brother!!! ![]() I'll just say this better not mean no summer edition this year! ![]() |

| Re: Possible Winter edition I feel mixed about it starting again so soon. I love, love, love Big Brother... but it's so associated with summer in my mind. It won't quite feel right. But that doesn't mean that I won't be watching the whole time!! ![]() |

| Re: Possible Winter edition Survivor started out as a summer show, but transitioned to the regular schedule because its ratings were really high. I think the Winter Edition BB is a one-time thing just for the writers strike (unless the writers strike for a whole year, in which case I'd expect to see non-union writers hired, or outsourcing writing to other countries to come up with content - what are soap operas doing these days, I don't watch so I don't know, but I remember the last writers strike they'd hired replacements). I digress, sorry for the rambling, but I think that BB is a summer fixture and CBS will plan to keep it that way except when it has a programming shortage like during this strike. In the summer we get to see more people in bikinis, which is always good viewing (for some demographics). They should move some of those funky heat lamps you see at California restaurants into the backyard to encourage pool use this winter, even if we don't have as much sunbathing this time of year. I just hope they cast some interesting people.

| Re: Possible Winter edition This move is definitely a writers strike related move with no intention of it becoming a regular fixture of CBS's non-Summer schedule. If you look at the Fall line-ups for the past few years, CBS has had fewer new shows than any other network. Their programming is successful and it works. Big Brother works in the Summer (or during a writers strike) because it fills up 3 hours of programming for the network. But under normal circumstances in the FAll, they'd be NUTS to go with Big Brother, because it would mean sacrificing so many shows that work for them. LG, regarding your question on the soaps -- Right now, they're still airing things that were already in the can. Most of them have programming to get them through January I believe. After that, its been reported that they'll most likely air old programs and put together full-week walks down memory lane (bringing back events such as Luke and Laura's wedding ,etc). Personally, I hope they do. THere's an era of Days I'd LOVE to have the chance to see again. If they were to resort to non-union writers or overseas writers, there will be some very very careful examination of contracts with other unions. SAG and AFTRA members would likely look for ways to get out of working recognizing how allowing such a move would weaken their own unions.

| Re: Possible Winter edition I just was on aol.com and saw a poll about a winter edition, I headed STRAIGHT here, cause I knew there'd be a discussion about it, lol (that's the only reality show I consistently watch, and only reason I come here to be honest, no offense) Anywayz....I think a winter edition is cool, but I don't know about washed up stars being on it, just doesn't interest me too much.... But I'll definitely be watching. I HOPE THIS SHOW GOES ON FOREVER!! (we all know that's not gonna happen) |
