I personally don't believe that things are that much worse than they used to be. Mind you, I do believe we have more crazies and I do believe you need to watch your kid and not be stupid about things. But I don't believe that we should not live our lives how we would like because we are too afraid of the boogeyman.
Not to mention that most kids who are abused are done so by a family member or friend. And really, ladies, how sane a kid are you going to raise if you freak out about everyone who comes into contact with them, male or female (because yes, women can be creepy too). When I was a kid, there were always stories going around about this pervert or that pervert, don't go near that old man, yadda yadda yadda. But my own unfortunate experiences with the pervs happened to be my dad's best friend and a teacher, not the scary dude down the road that everyone said to stay away from. Everyone's best bet is to raise a secure, confident, independent kid (seriously, stop clinging or you'll raise a snivelling poltroon who is unable to take care of themself), listen to them when they talk, and don't give in to hysteria.
All I wanted was a 45, a stinking 45 - the record or the gun. I'd even settle for the damn malt liquor. - Al Bundy.

You're right: most abuse is from a family member or friend... and most kidnappings are from (angry) non-custodial parents, and not strangers. Emily is doing what she can to protect Ricki by trying to carefully choose a husband.

Oh, and Ricki will need something nice too.

I read that the Muppets date skirt alone was thousands, and the gold dress from episode 3 was 40,000-60,000. And then they had to get her a Burberry coat because some locale was colder than expected ... Can add up fast.

On the whole debate about if putting a child on TV (pr on you tube, or on your FB page, etc) puts them at risk, What I've generally heard from people willing to do that is that most kid's are at risk anyway, they are inadvertently exposed all the time, it is an illusion to think you can truly keep everything about your child private, so if there is a situation where there are big benefits to allowing your child on TV, why not do it?

And they are, really, it is almost impossible to keep kids out of all media, and there may not be much difference between knowing they are exposed and being extra cautious in other ways, v not realizing they are exposed and just assuming they are safe. And the alternative is keeping the kids so sheltered they don't really have a life. Finding a good balance between safety and living life is difficult in the modern world.

I agree that it's tough to find a balance, but you can be overprotective. Just heard last night of a local sports star who allowed his children to "roam free" within a large water park setting. My relative who was at the event stated anyone could take the child at anytime because of the star's exposure in the public eye. I have not known this personality to parade their children on TV, but still there is risk involved when out in the public.

Do you know if Emily gets to keep the expensive clothes that she wears?

My understanding is that the lead gets to keep the clothes. Probably one of the reasons she did the show.
I've finally discovered what's wrong with my brain: On the left side, there's nothing right, and on the right side, there's nothing left.

I would have those long dresses cut off into street length ones. I personally do not like long formal dresses. I wonder if all the clothes she is wearing were bought for her or is she wearing any that she owns. Emily reminds me of an old soul and her clothes sometimes shows that. This is my opinion only.

I can see that. Her style and, say, Jillian's or Ashley's, is very different, and certainly more pagaenty. I like how she dresses when she goes casual. Loved seeing pics of her last year with a maxi dress and flats. She managed to look chic, comfortable and appropriate all at the same time. Like you, I'm not a huge fan of formal gowns, but I did love that white pant suit she was wearing the other night.
