    I'm guessing that means either that girl is engaged or married to one of his friends or a friend of one of his brothers or Sister in laws and that might be why he won't be pushing that thing. I agree that if he was actually dating, he'd be the one pushing.

    Maybe it means that if that was his girlfriend, he would absolutely be pushing that thing.

    They do know each other and are both on the same street at the same time but maybe not together and each doing theirl own thing so he would not be pushing it as they are not together
