Bachelorette 5**** Spoilers, episode 8 with screencaps

I'm sorry if this has already been discussed, as I have only read the last few pages.

Is anyone else feeling like this last episode was straight out of daytime television? I know there have been questions about the shows authenticity over time. This last episode was either completely contrived, IMO, or it was so over-produced that it seemed completely scripted. I'm starting to believe that there aren't any "real" people left in the F4. Wes's family, for example, were all studio ready - but didn't look alike at all. Kiptyn has a monochromatic personality (if any at all). Ed - though my favorite - has been gone - so who knows about him. The only "real" person seems to be Reid.

I felt like Melissa from Jason's season was given this false "storyline" about her parents, too (thereby subverting any real personality being revealed). She seemed like a performer to me (though a sweet and beautiful one). Molly and Reid seem like they have that similar quirky "real person" personality. It may be harder for the public to warm up to them because they aren't as glossy as their competition (because they are real people). Is it possible that they narrow it down to 3 "actors" and the final choice? I'm not saying that I like Reid in particular, I'm just noticing that lack of authenticity in the show all the way around. It's become quite glaring, IMO.

Another scattered thought about this was about Shayne (Matt's F1) and Jesse (DeAnna's season F1) - I feel like they were both shills placed by the producers to take the F1 if the Bach/ette got cold feet (about Chelsea and Jason respectively).

O.k. - sorry, this was not meant to end up being about the "edit" - I just got carried away thinking about how this weeks ridiculous scenes with Jake/Jillian (can I just say, the phone calls! So fake seeming), Jake/Wes, Jillian/Wes sitting on the tree, Ed's "surprise" return (to a totally dressed up and "waiting" Jillian) seemed completely orchestrated (and how there were elements of previous seasons that did that as well)

His leaving had further impact, IMO, to her self esteem. I imagine that part of the way that they lure people into agreeing to be the primary on this show is by convincing them that everyone will be there FOR THEM, to woo them, to win their heart---when Ed left it became painfully clear to Jillian that just because she was the primary it did NOT mean that the guys were all there solely for her. Staying in her room crying could have been for a combination of being upset that Ed in particular was gone, but could also have been due to the greater realization that any of these guys could do the same---she expressed as much in her own words, and she said something about even when you are the one wearing the pants (meaning when you are the primary rather than a contestant) you can still get hurt. JMO.

I was getting ready to post that I thought her self-esteem was hurt. She did make the comment that what if they all want to leave or something like that. I think it really hurt her feelings that he chose "work" over her. (Not that I believe he did).

The poster came back to re-post and said the part about jillian being upset when Ed left was deleted from the interview. She said she wished she had copied the original interview.

I think someone already commented that they changed the previews for Ep.8 over on the ABC site. They replaced all but Wes's Spain date with a montage of Ed leaving/Ed coming back. Seems CH may have taken those interviewers (from TV Guide) to heart when they told him they didn't see the angst of his leaving/returning.

Also, speaking of the ABC site, I'm wondering if Wes's picture has been the first up on the "bachelors" box (upper right corner) because that was either part of his deal, or if someone felt sorry about his edit.

That wasn't changed. It was already like that for a commercial. The preview still has Wes's date after that.

^ I wonder the same thing. At the very beginning of the season, Kip and Jake were the Bachelors featured on the Main site.

They don't have that on ABC. Only at the grapevine, etc.

I watched the HTD episode twice again this weekend, and I gotta say I am finally warming up to Reid - his edit has kept me distracted, but if you take that away and just watch them interact I see a couple who could potentially have a real relationship, and I don't see the same thing with Kip or Ed.

I, too, am just seeing the Reid connection after the hometown date. I thought Ed would be F1, but, now, I am leaning towards Reid because Jillian has said on camera that family is really important to her and she seems to really click with Reid AND his family.
