Re: Bachelorette 5**** Spoilers, episode 8 with screencaps

You know it's all very easy for us to criticize Ed on his eye contact but there are a couple of things we should probably take into consideration. One is that the scenes are all so edited that half the time we don't even know if he's responding to what she really said and vice versa. The other thing is that we can't really say what we would do in this situation with cameras in our faces and having someone talk about something that's painful to us. If Jillian felt Ed wasn't paying attention to her and/or being disrespectful she wouldn't have kept him.

Re: Bachelorette 5**** Spoilers, episode 8 with screencaps

I think we all need to think back to when we first were falling in love--everything is heightened, glances are tentative, eye contact means revealing how deeply you are starting to feel. There is still an element of flirting. None of these guys have been with Jillian for 5, 10, 20 years. How we are with our husbands, boyfriends, wives, girlfriends now, and how we show our love, is different from how we were when we were falling for each other. Think back.

I, for one, am firmly in the eye contact at all times is tough when you aren't completely ready to reveal your feelings camp. Honestly, I would be a little bit creeped out if someone was staring me in the eyes at all times in the beginning of our relationship. I'm a bit shy. Eye contact is great for a job interview, but too aggressive for me at the start of a relationship. I guess it's a matter of personal habits and style. My husband seems to like my style, fwiw.

1) the guy in blue suit was Ed and he was the one shown at the door, quite possibly, to Jillian's room. He proposed ... Did he advance to the Final round? If he was that guy standing in that doorway, then he could be one of the final 2.

2) the guy holding the ring was Kip (the guy's fingers looked like his). The color of the guy's suit was blue(?). He definitely was one of the Final 2 (3 guys?). Did they photoshop the color of his suit to confuse viewers? Pefect example was Melissa's 'powder blue' gown ... which in the FRC, became a sunny yellow; the style or cut was the same.

3) the guy who was rejected seemed to be not much taller than Jillian ... and the hair did not look that wavy like Ed's ... Obviously, this was not Ed ... I thought at first this was Kip ... but if the guy holding the ring was Kip, his suit was not of the same color as the rejectee's so who was this guy? Reid? ... Did they photoshop that picture of the guy holding the ring? When was this shot taken? After he selected the ring or on his way to FRC?

So far, Kip's picture (if this was Kip and I feel this was him) holding a ring places him in the Final 2 so who was the other guy in a brown suit? Reid? That guy looked too short to be Ed.

In the past, the F1 is usually hidden. We generally don't hear much about the F1. Well, I read a lot of Reid 'sightings' ... and, recently, Kip surfaced _ he was interviewed for an event his company sponsored. The only one who remains hidden _ (news reports completely 'blacked out') is Ed. Does this make him the F1?
IDK, but last season Molly all but fell off the face of the planet for what, 6 weeks?, or until the taping of the ATFR. Is there a parallel to be drawn?

That was an unusual season. Everyone seemed glued to Reality Steve's blogs about the possible controversial outcome. Also, because of the early screen caps shown, everyone seemed convinced that Melissa was Jason's F1 which proved to be the truth. Of course, I didn't agree with RS's assertions that Jason's change of heart was Fleiss-inspired ... and I still believe that the decision was purely Jason's. He initially fell for Melissa thinking she was the epitome of someone he wanted ... but when reality set in, he realized his heart really wanted Molly ... and the possibility of losing Molly compelled him to publicly break up with Melissa. I had a feeling he and Melissa had actually broken up before they showed up in the ATFR episode but the latter was hoping they could continue the charade and let their 'parting' be like most couples' of these shows. By the way, Melissa did confirm to Ellen Degeneres that she did not get dumped in the show as they had broken up before they appeared in this particular episode. I believe what irked or hurt Melissa was hearing the real reason _ that she was dumped for Molly _ the runner-up, hence her anger and resentment. I did not like what Jason did but I certainly could empathize with him and his concerns. Was his action justified? As the song goes, "All is fair in love, love's a crazy game".

Interestingly, ABC seems to have wised up. This time they have cleverly manipulated certain scenes to simply intrigue the viewers ... not giving much clues. For instance, they showed only one guy holding the ring .... and they haven't bothered to place this guy in a 'revealing' setting so we do not know where this particular scene took place at the FRC or after his visit to the jeweler's shop (was he showing it to Jill or to someone else _ the jeweler, for instance?).

This morning I asked my 'Urim and Thummin' to tell the fates of the 3 gentlemen and it says _ Ed decided to be truly vulnerable [get to the bottom of things] and boldly asked the 'whys' .... Kip chose to let go of his fears and did the unexpected _ the result was a new direction ... and Reid, he fell in love and fought for it .... And the heroine, well, at first she seemed giddy ... thrilled with what could possibly happen .... but her decision? Will she stick to her early pick or go another route?

As far as Ed "falling off the face of the earth", it could be significant, but we have to keep in mind that both Reid's and Kip's livelihood depends on a lot of social networking whereas Ed's does not. I don't know how much tweeting or wining and dining he did pre-Bachelorette, does anybody? I would not expect to see a big change in behavior; if there was it could mean something.

ITA, especially with bolded comments. Even though Ed does look away, when Ed has something significant to say, he does look directly into Jillian's eyes. Go back to their 1:1 date on the rooftop, they were staring into each other's eyes and they both said they loved/liked each other eyes. So they are making plenty of eye contact. Many people who are good at direct eye contact, do look away when they are "processing" information or a thought. I do myself. Given that Ed admittedly stated he is a guarded person and doesn't open up quickly, AND the emotionality of the situation -- Ed has done a good job of expressing his feelings to Jillian and that he has made it clear to her wants to be with her. Hence, he is still in the running.

I think to have someone stare at your or "be in your face" is creepy. Look at how intense Jake and Ed were towards Jillian and that scared her off!

Kip and Reid look away too sometimes. Go back and watch their conversations. Ed looks at her plenty. I agree it would be weird if he never looked away.

There was a huge change in Ed's demeanor in the last episode. In the first episode, he was this guy trying to 'see' if that much-desired connection was there. The Ed who came back showed him as 'confident, determined, decisive' ... and in that carriage ride, you could sense his 'vulnerability' ... he would sometimes look away .... He was a bit fearful ... I think, Ed did not quite know how he would handle the situation _ his leaving made him feel a bit insecure. I think Kip, Reid and Ed had all fallen for Jillian's charm. I think of the three, Ed is in love with her the most. I see him as questioning her the most .... and she would be surprised at this change.

Kip is the only one that is really active in social networking. He is twittering and accepting new friends.

Reid has been twittering but so much as before and mostly only work related. He hasn't accepted new friends and hasn't answered any messages.
He hasn't twittered since June 25.

I think Ed is a different case. He is an IT guy and probably knows best how to stay out of the picture. He also had to stay low because of his return later in the show.

I also think it is not a coincident that there are rumors out there about both Ed and Kip regarding girlfriends or ex-girlfriends, while there are no rumors about Reid, beside a sighting of him with his brother.

I agree, I think Ed was surprised that he fell for Jillian on the show in the first place. He has always stated his pleasant surprise about his attraction to Jillian, but his comeback plea, their interaction on the couch and his look at her in the RC made it evident that he has deep feelings for her. I also believe he is in love with her (or he is a good actor). In the upcoming weeks, he escalates his quest to win her affection and proves to her how serious he is about her - he wants to get the girl. That said, I think Reid and Kip have fallen for her too. It will be a horse race to the finish -- Win, Place or Show! Anyone want to make a wager? I think it is obvious that I want Ed to win!
