Everything about this season- including Mom in the window- seems so staged and cheesy. I don't know if it's always been that way and I am just noticing it more this season or if the acting is just particularly bad this time.Originally Posted by Capegal;3534020;
The whole scene between Wes and Jillian (talking after he "performed" his songs) felt so awkward to watch. It really did remind me of bad acting at a junion high play. (and I don't mean on Jillian's part) And the fact that we only saw a small tiny sliver of family time was weird too. There were no one on one talks with his sisters, there was no mention of his dad being there or not. It just seems sooo staged to me. And ofc they are not going to throw their own family member under a bus or say "oh yeah he does have a girlfriend".
I am holding out hope for Reid. I want to eat him alive!!
I have to disagree. I have a MIL like Kiptyn's and inside I was screaming run, Jillian, run. I didn't find Reid's mom pushy at all. Kiptyn's mom responded to Jillian saying that she wanted to find the "one" or something like that by saying she didn't believe in all that and then challenged every other answer Jillian gave her. I see lots of chemistry and passion between Jillian and Reid. They always give the final 2 some sort of "obstacle" to overcome. Reid's caution and indecisiveness is his--kind of like Ian's, but that didn't stop him from being F1Originally Posted by albean99;3533974;

I actually thought Kip's mom was the best part of tonight's very loooooong show. Someone who actually asked intelligent, thoughtful, important questions, and then waited for and expected answers in kind. Told me that she takes the process seriously and is looking out for her son's best interest. Heaven help the young lady who thinks she's going to just waltz in and carry off my son. She'll have some serious qualifying to do!Originally Posted by lark37;3534075;

There was musical entertainment--not one--but two--family bands! (Funny riffs on Wes's performance. To their credit, both families had fun with this.) There were twin-antics! Food and wine tasting tests! (The light red wine actually looked like Crystal Light Pink Lemonade. Some test. One lasagne was probably Chef Boyardee straight out of a can.) A showdown at the OK Corral! (If Jake becomes the Bachelor in White, he needs to deliver his lines more convincingly. The balcony "crying" scene--with edited-in sobs--was particularly D-grade.) A ghost returning from the dead to his lost love and to haunt her current loves!
All of those staged hijinks were smoke and mirrors to obscure either (a) her actual F1 or (b) the fact that this season ends in a morass or a flatline.
what do we think about Jillian even mentioning that in order for Ed to be in contention, since he missed the HTD and family is SO important to her, she will at least need to talk to them on the phone??? Was that a hint that when it happens in HI it will be enough for her to choose him?
I know we have all mentioned that family is so important to her and that no way would she pick him b/c she didn't meet his family BUT.....Did she just give herself a way out of that???
It just bothers me all around, the whole coming back thing like it was no big deal, etc...grrrrr.
I think she said something about if Ed were to propose to her in the end if she picked him, she could not accept a proposal unless she at least talked to his parents on the phone.Originally Posted by mom2boystx;3534112;
That bothered me too, because I wondered if it was foreshadowing such a call. However, it could have been inserted to go along with the theme of fairness to all the other guys, seeing as she had just put them all through the family visits. Who knows. What bothers me more is that the dead rose which Ed insisted on taking did not make a reappearance and you know it just has to somewhare.Originally Posted by mom2boystx;3534112;

ITA. At first, I actually thought Kip's parents were super pretentious--because in my mind, only the truly pretentious find it necessary to brag about how they're into "fine wines" and bring up the languages they speak. But THEN! She started in on the questioning. I loved that she was not into Bachelor-speak. She was straight-up like "what does that even mean?" to one of Jillian's BS answers. I actually caught myself thinking, "these people seem like they should be embarassed their son is even involved with this show/hot tub girl." I was rather incredulous that they proved to have a sense of humor.I actually thought Kip's mom was the best part of tonight's very loooooong show. All in all, what was interesting to me about the "edit" of these hometown dates was the contrast between the superfun family time with those she cut--Michael and Jesse--and the relatively intense/normal dates with her serious suitors--Kiptyn and Reid, respectively. The contrast between their HTD's was interesting. I'm brought this over from another thread...
On the date with Kip, they continued setting Kiptyn up as unattainable. Rather than Jillian being in the driver's seat and assessing whether she liked his family or not, whether she would fit with him, it was presented as Jillian was the one being tested, the one being questioned. Kip stood passively by, allowing her to be subjected to a snobby "food test" and allowing her to be grilled. At the end of Kip's date, Jillian had to be the one asking how it went, needing reassurance. They're editing Kip to be Mr. Perfect, but they're showing us he's so laid back and passive that she is never going to know if she is good enough, where she stands with Kip...or his family.
In contrast, on the date with Reid, it was Reid checking in with Jillian on how it went: "did you enjoy that?" which was telling. Okay, fine, we know he likes to ask a lot of questions, but still I thought it was considerate and was an interesting contrast to what we saw of Kiptyn. I actually thought this date seemed normal and that Reid was adorably nervous, but I thought the edit again focused on Reid's flaws. He's indecisive, blah, blah, blah, his own brother mentions a fear of commitment. From the edit, this was never about whether Jilly would "fit in" with his family. It seemed more that Reid was the one under scrutiny; his family was analyzing his affection towards her. It seemed to me that the edited snippets of Reid's family--their "doubts" about his readiness to commit or ability to be affectionate--was supposed to add to the viewer's doubts about him.
They've been planting the seeds of doubt about Reid for a while, what with the implied ED, the "neurotic" edit, the foreshadowing that he won't tell her how he feels, and now he's a commitmentphobe! I choose to believe that he must be F1, because I don't know why they would try to build such a case otherwise. They certainly didn't seem to feel the need to prepare an edit of Jesse's flaws before she cut him.
