Wes says that, and it probably is fall out from Girlfriendgate.

Wes was obviously promised exposure. If we had seen him play the song for Jillian once under the balcony, okay. But no, we were tortured to watch / or fast forward through him practicing the song, and then playing the song for Jillian, not once, but painfully twice. Did it make you want to sing along and buy a CD, or simply fast forward?

Sad that they will keep him around so long, for his benefit.

The song really wasn't that great. It is like the same tune to another country song with about the same lyrics. It isn't really original IMO.
    My favorites: Reid and Kiptyn

In 17 seasons I don't remember anything like this, so I have come to the conclusion that either he is very closely related to one of the producers, or he has been promised this exposure in exchange for being cast in an extremely derogatory or personally revealing and humiliating position - something happens that casts shame upon his good name, but it is worth it for the publicity he will receive for his record and career.

They say if you play a country song backwards, you get back your dog, your truck, and your woman. With those sentiments, the image of a bad boy with a cheating heart fits right in.

It could be that Wes being cast for the show was similar to Shayne in Matt's season--a security blanket. Maybe Wes was initially cast to go quite a bit further for either Melissa and then Jillian ala Shayne and then things changed up with Jillian taking on the role as bachelorette instead of Melissa or Jillian actually being able to find a few guys she actually liked to take to the F3 thus dumping Wes.
In exchange for Wes doing TPTB a favor he would get his much desired exposure. We can consider ourselves lucky because if he was initially meant to be this season's Shayne, we could have gotten stuck with a FRC serenade.

I take everything I read like this with a grain of salt, but if this turns out to be true then I will be happy. This is a crazy way to meet someone and there's so much pressure on the couple, not to mention the distance between them (if Reid is indeed F1 over there in Philly). I think the real falling in love, if it happens at all, happens after the FRC. Everything before that is happening in fantasyland.

Nothing about the show is realistic, but it makes so much more sense to wait and see if feelings change after the show is over and media interest dies down.

My true hope is that Canada customs confiscated the guitar and declared it to be contraband material.
"It's just a show" - let's try not to trash people - tptb do that very well all on their own they don't need our help!

Here's what I don't get: why would ABC do this? Did they need a villain that badly for this season? If that's what happened then people are thinking Wes agreed to be the sleazy, smarmy villain in exchange for all the exposure? I just don't get why Wes would think it would help him. He's not very attractive (IMO), he doesn't have a very good voice (IMO), and he's not that great a songwriter judging from that song (IMO). Nashville's full of singer songwriters who look, write, and sing better than he does.

I guess Wes wouldn't be the first person to delude himself into thinking that all he needs to get picked up by Nashville is some exposure. But if you read the Music City TV site in Nashville which was ALL over the Travis Stork season because of the local connection, and the Tennessean it doesn't seem like anybody cares about Wes (thank goodness). The only mention of this season's Bachelorette on Music City TV was when Nashville's Caleb was knocked out.

One thing to watch for if you're in the 'Wes is a producer plant' school of thinking is whether Wes tries to get any play at the CMA Music Fest next week. ABC's covering the CMA Music Fest like it does every year and will have a 3 hour special on it at the end of August. We already know ABC loves its cross promotion (like Bachelor/DWTS, and DWTS's Julianne Hough cohosting last year's CMA Music Fest).

I actually wonder if Wes is one of those angling to be the next Bachelor. All this aspiring country singer stuff is a big backstory and it's something ABC might've liked in principle because of all the possible cross promotion. But they've gone with the villain story instead so I don't see Wes with a chance at becoming the next Bachelor.

    LOL!

    LOL!
I am a MASSIVE country music fan and I can tell you there is NO WAY he will get any plug @ the CMA Fest..... the dude SUCKS. Not only that I am pretty sure he is not signed to any major label, and in order to get any play on country music radio you have to be signed to a label who can market the heck out of you. His song sucks, his voice sucks, and his personality sucks = no chance at him being the next Tim or Kenny.
