Seriously. Wes is the one who ON TV said that he was there for the publicity. He said those words. Whether they were put in an edit, Wes said them. He's a jerk. I will never believe a word he says.
See, the problem with the bolded part, is that things can be edited in as well as edited out. Wes could say ten different things at ten different times, then the editors take one word from each sentence, string them together however they want, and we have Wes saying a completely different sentence, that he never put together himself. Make sense?

I'm not going to try to get anyone to change their opinion of Wes, but I hope people will understand that words/sentences/soundbites can be edited in and completely fabricated.

You can bet they will be using Wes for ratings on that show, with it being a 2 hour one, they've never had a 2 hour MTA show before. I don't see how they can demand him to be there, when they have had others to decline the show. Jessica D from Jesse season, Allie from Travis season.

I just finished listening to to the interview with Wes and my thoughts are this: The truth, as it often does, lies somewhere in the middle. We are expected to believe that this guy who is well on his way to a career in the spotlight is totally naive to what kind of PR he is putting out there by saying some of the things that he said--even if taken out of context? I think this guy has a HUGE ego and his motives for being on the show were anything but pure. Did they edit him in spots? Slice and Dice the things he said? Probably. But for someone with such high aspirations to fame and fortune through his music, he sure has a thin skin and a basic lack of people skills that would be neccesary to go into the entertainment field. I think he is going to need to learn to handle himself better and in such a way that he does not give critics and reporters the rope needed to hang himself. I am sure that every well known performer has had a hatchet job or two done on them by the press early on in their careers--but I haven't read any recent articles talking about what a jack*** Kenny Chesney or Alan Jackson are! Could it be that they actually don't act like huge douche bags or is it just that the press (who would just NEVER look for a sensational story that would bring in big bucks) overlook their bad behavior? I think Wes gave the producers here a good taste of what he is really like and they ran with it. Looks to me like Wes needs to polish up a bit on his PR skills before he hits the big time!

i think we just need to accept the fact that these shows take on the format of 'reality', but aren't meant to be 'reality shows'. they are different simply because they gather their footages from real life (at least in an artificially manufactured 'real life' environment), and then they play with them in the editing room to come up with a dramatic narrative that maximize ratings. that's all it is. we viewers need to change our perspective of what these shows are, and not confound the character on the show with the person in real life.

wes is probably not mr. nice, irrespective of how heavily edited the show is. we've heard enough from how other bachelors (robby, jesse, reid...) and jillian commented on him to know that he's sort of aggressive and abrasive. however, he's probably just a more straightforward guy who lets his mouth run loose most of the time. he probably went on the show to promote his music, but to call him filth would go too far.

    just my two cents worth

I haven't had it in me to finish the whole thing yet - and typically the first thing that occurs to me is going to be sarcastic, but I think
that your take on this is very balanced and VERY well said.

she definitely did not - I don't think it would've mattered if George Clooney, Matthew Mcconahey, Brad Pitt and Gerard Butler were in the cast of characters, the producers were hell bent on throwing in a bunch of crap to get a dramatic season.....

So you don't believe that Wes went on this show with the intention of garnering publicity?? I think that's pretty much a given. He said (and we saw him say it with his own mouth) that he manager thought it would be great for his career, get some exposure.

that said - I don't think Wes is a bad person - I didn't need to hear the radio interview to know his edit was not who he actually is.

K I just saw this on Twitter...aparently Dave might get fired from the school that he works at because of his edit on the Bachelorette? Can anyone confirm this? I didn't think he worked at a school.

I try to look at it from a logical point of view. If someone goes on a TV show to promote their career or with any other kind of agenda, then they would never go on the show and think: "All right this is a dating show with a proposal in the end but I will just be mean to the girl , I will tell them I don't like her, I will tell veryone I'm not here for the girl. I am sure this strategy will help me sell lots of CDs and make me famous."

Wouldn't that person rather do the exact opposite? I mean it's common sense.

everyone knows that when you go on a TV show where a nice, popular fan favorite is looking for her future byfriend/husband and you go on the show and show that you are not into the girl and there just for your career that you will be hated and noone will like you afterwards. Noone would do something like that.

The way the show portrays Wes is as if he one day decides hey I would like to ruin my career and make everyone hate me. That just doesn't make sense.

Wes doesn't strike me as someone intelligent enough to figure that part out.
