I personally began to wonder if the FIR was a producer prompt. He didn't know who to give it to, and with her beauty she had been selected to be the first one out of the limo for effect ( they do that). I suspected that they reminded him of Amanda, and he agreed. Later in an interview when questioned about the FIR, she said they hardly talked that evening which further solidified the producer prompt idea in my mind. I believe that Amanda was designated as F3 that first night based on what I know from the editing and tracking order of past seasons. People don't think that happens, but when you go back and track past seasons, the F3s and sometimes F4s frequently pop up the very first night. **In re-watching Trista's Bachette1 this last week, I was struck by what she told Chris just prior to the first Meet N Greet RC when he was asking her for first impressions ( no FIR then.) She said these people stood out to her : Charlie (became F2), Russell (became F3), Ryan (became F1) and Jamie (left at F6). The reason we didn't see any of Amanda's conversations ( although the other contestants said she and Matt interacted lots together) was because it didn't further the storyline toward the FRC and the F1 and F2. The episodes were short, so the F3 (whose storyline didn't contribute much to the FRC) just wasn't alloted very much time - to our extreme disappointment. What we were shown was so positive ( as compared to the negative editing of both the F1 and F2) that it seemed as though she could be F1. However, I was tracking her rose order ( the order in which she was given the rose in the ceremonies), and she was often, not always, but often given the rose in the same order that many other F3s from other seasons had been given theirs, so I had the sinking feeling that the lovely Amanda was slotted for the F3 position. Although I was disappointed, I was not surprised when we could not find screencaps to further her trip into the F2s, and I dreadeded it but I knew that somehow they would have to do something that would indicate a bad hometown to make their relationship look like it couldn't be F1 - hence the prank - which I am positive is a producer prompt - first they love the drama, and second they knew he wasn't going to pick her, so that gave them the "edited" excuse in the minds of the viewers ( "what a poor way for her to use her alone time with him") for him to ditch her. | |

| Re: Behind the Edit **SPOILERS** Lynn7 - thanks for suggesting this thread, and PiperMaru - thanks for starting it and taking a look at camera shots and speech as they edit the storylines. This morning, before I found this thread, I posted in the Ron thread on the main page about how surfing below the wave of the edit is VERY interesting. Watching for the foreshadowing and what you would call the "money" shots, what I think of as the "telling" shots is the fun part of sleuthing the show. I do admit to missing the one of Jesse simulating "sprinkling" fairy dust over Jason's head, though. I wonder if Jason calling him the devil before Jesse amends it to devil's advocate is also a foreshadow of Jesse trying to sabotage the other men. The "hold your enemies closer" line that you mentioned is, to me, becoming an integral part of Jesse's storyline. Show him your smiling face as you stab him in the back. So far, they've showed the strong attraction to Jeremy, the growing attraction to Jesse, and the slow though positive attraction to Jason. Jason, though, has the stongest positive edit garanteed, at this point, to draw both DeAnna and the viewers to his side. On a sidenote regarding forshadowing - Richard was in the Outhouse playing pool when DeAnna arrived for their date. No one yelled for him to come outside. Was this to show him dreading having to face the outcome? Regarding cute as a chipmunk Fred...He was first at her side as an escort down the "walk of shame" as he dubbed it the first episode; and the first (along with Jesse) to reach her on the bull-mat. There is a preview clip of her telling a hidden man, that he was more invested, and it wasn't there...is this DeAnna's goodbye speech to Fred this next week? Also, The doubts raised with Graham and highlighted in his edit (distance, communication problems, free-styling life) have not been subtle and foreshadow his leaving before the end no matter how much DeAnna wants to keep him. Again, thank you for starting this thread...I look forward to your analysis of episode 4.

| Re: Behind the Edit **SPOILERS** Ariel, girl, I love the way you think, too! ![]() Jesse is getting the subtle but villain F2 edit. I didn't highlight one of Piper's comments because it got lost in the shuffle when I was trying to bring stuff over from Word onto the reply thread, but somewhere she hints also about the "friend" thing. It worked for Sara Stone ( not really, as we actually know from behind the scenes info), but that usually is another F2 foreshadowing.....is he/she just a friend? That was said at least once early last season with Matt and Chelsea, and we also heard him whisper what appeared to sound like, "Thank you for being my friend," during the Vegas cuddle. |

| Re: Behind the Edit **SPOILERS** Just an added side issue to think about: The editors in B12 and Bette4 are different than previously. If someone wants to check the credits, perhaps it will show that. Mike Fleiss and Lisa Levinson have not been as intimately involved in these two productions as previously. They have been working, I believe, on High School Reunion. Therefore, the editing (the whole production team) is somewhat different, especially in the F1 treatment, that we have ben used to. IMO the edit is not as subtle as before. Of course, perhaps the contestants and circumstances might dictate that also ![]() Very interesting reading all your comments - this is the type of analysis I like: following the story line. ![]()

| Re: Behind the Edit **SPOILERS** okay, I admit, I'm a total rookie who will happily chat offline about this w/ someone so I don't waste everyone's time...but I don't get why they edit in sneaky clues at all? Do they do this on purpose, or is it inevitable b/c the F4 have so much time with her, emotional connections, and SC's give the F2 away? I'm learning a lot about the edits and what to look for when I watch the show, but I'm new and there are thousands of messages to catch up on! What's the benefit for the producers to purposefully give little clues? (don't get me wrong, I LOVE that they seem to do this!) Thanks for your time. ![]() |
