Re: Behind the Edit **SPOILERS**

I have posted many of the thoughts in this post over in the Aftermath thread, but I am bringing them over here, because they are very edit-related, and I am curious to hear what other edit-focused viewers are seeing. I am not a DeJay fan---never have been---Jeremy was my personal favorite, but I tried to keep an open mind regarding the connection we were seeing between DeAnna and all the guys.

I think Jason is a great guy, and has received a very positive edit, and I saw some romance between him and DeAnna, but I also saw a romance develop between her and Jesse. I think the fact that Jason got a more obvious edit, and had the attention of and appeal to more viewers (because he's a sweet, loving single dad and people saw how heartwrenching it was for him to be away from his son) allowed for it to look like he was F1, whereas the "love story" with Jesse built much slower, and was much more hidden...as well as the fact that it was clouded by Jesse having a bolder, less conventional personality that initially gave some viewers a negative impression of him.

If you didn't have Jason picked as the winner (as I did not), then I think it is much easier to see the Jesse-story building. He got her attention instantly---FIB---she was intrigued. He lived in the big house the first week, so she got a chance to know him and they became friends---she was still intrigued. He won all the early competitions---she was further intrigued. He wowed her on the dirtbike---she was more than intrigued, she found him "hot" and wanted him to kiss her. Around the same time (dirtbike ep) I think Jesse had it hit him that he was really starting to fall for DeAnna too---prior to that I think he was just in the whole thing to see what happened---to have the experience---and was enjoying getting to know her. Not sure what the "OMG" moment was for him, but I think it happened on that group date, because when she is sitting with him at the pool, and she is giving all the "i want him to kiss me now" vibes, he is so nervous he can't shut himself up---there are pauses in the conversation and he knows he could lean in and kiss her and she would respond well, but he can't bring himself to do it---you don't get that nervous about kissing someone you aren't falling for---you only get that kind of nervous when you realize it is someone you care about. The HTD once again showcased Jesse in his element---she was again intrigued---he's a wild man on the slopes, he's a kind and gentle teacher, he has a ridiculously organized kitchen (sorry, folks, I couldn't resist), he has fabulously sweet parents, including a wonderful dad who Jesse himself says is "a glimpse of what he'll turn out like in 30 years". When they finally kiss they both really wanted it---it wasn't a "hmmm, I guess we should kiss now" moment---it was a culmination of wanting to kiss one another for some time. On the FD Jesse shows vulnerability, openness, and yet he totally freaks her out with his "I'm not sure I can until I meet your dad" line about the FS card---he freaks her out, in a way she finds intriguing once again. Jesse at this point is smitten with her---no one is more surprised than him that they are falling for one another, yet they are.

So where does that leave us? Yes, DeAnna has been shown to have a connection with Jason, but first of all it has been so elaborately detailed on the boards I don't think I could even do it justice. What I have seen is that she liked Jason initially, and wanted to get to know him better, so she did. She felt safe with him, and nurtured by him, and this drew her to him. She was very stressed by the process of the show and he made her feel comforted (most glaring example would be the night she let Fred and Robert go---he was there for her with open ears and open arms). She grew more attached to him, because he provided her with things she needed, she found him sweet in a way that I don't think she has been treated by men in her past. (Jeremy was also providing her with comfort, compassion, and support during this time---I think the two of them really helped her get through the process of this show---again, I don't think she is used to having these "giving, loving" types of men in her romantic life---but as soon as Jeremy said he was falling in love with her, she let him go---was the challenge gone? was the intrigue gone? did she just not feel the romantic connection? [i have to add I find the lack of connection to be hard to swallow seeing as she took him to the FS,even though it seems she had already decided to let him go, but that's JMO]. On the HTD DeAnna fell in love with Ty, and with Jason's family---no question about that---the big loving family complete with the loving mother-figure she so desperately misses having in her own life (and that's not a criticism of DeAnna, in any way)---but I don't know that it drew her any closer to Jason. If anything it may have underscored for her that Ty is the center of Jason's universe, as he well deserves to be---and if she chooses Jason, she will have to fall into orbit him, with Ty as the center of the universe---she won't be the central focus of that relationship, no matter how much Jason tries. Yes, she has a wonderful time on their FD, yes she likes him, yes, she may even love him---but he doesn't give her the rush she gets from Jesse. Jason is warm and comforting and loving, but Jesse is exciting and unexpected and "she can't imagine not having him in her life". We've been shown 2 love stories. Three if you count Jeremy's "perfect guy" edit---where she says he is everything she wanted, but she wanted something else more...and 4 if you count Graham's "smokin' hot---he's the one I thought I was falling in love with" edit, where she really wants him, but he can't give her what she wants, so she decides to break out of her habit of wanting what she can't have and look at what she has right in front of her instead. JMO as someone who has tried, desperately, to watch each of the contestants and judge their edits on their own, and not in the context of the boards or my personal favorites.

I think it was easier than usual for the editors to keep the attraction off the screen for 3 reasons:

1. The attraction grew slowly and steadily from the beginning to the end, instead of burning brightly at the beginning and dying out over time.

2. DeAnna had a major checklist with her when she came on this show, and many of the other guys had a lot of the checklist-qualities right off the bat---what she didn't realize was that a lot of the things on her checklist were things she didn't really truly want---because when she was presented with guys who embodied those things (in several different forms) she rejected them---even to her own surprise.

3. The editors were graced with several contestants who were so compelling and had so much character, charisma, charm, and integrity that their personal stories took on lives of their own---all the editors had to do was focus some time on each of these amazing men and their work was done---the viewers couldn't help but be drawn to them and DeAnna was drawn to each of them for different reasons. It just took her a while to see (and admit)that what she really wanted was not what she thought she wanted. JMO.

Since so many people have gone back and rewatched episodes to see if they can see the DeAnna/Jesse connection in retrospect, I am wondering exactly how many "obvious" clues were overlooked earlier, due to assumptions we made for various reasons. Was Fleiss "hiding it in plain sight" the entire time? Offhand I can come up with the following lines:

Jesse saying "it's as real as real can be"

Jason saying (to Graham,at the pool after the dirtbike date) "Jesse, you are THAT GUY"

Brian (in his exit interview) "you've just gotta love Jesse" (or something like that)

My mind has gone to mush, but I know there are tons of other examples---just curious to know what examples others can come up with either from memory or from having rewatched the shows with a new perspective in mind. Piper, if you're still around, I'd love to hear whatever input you (and your insightful SO) have to offer.

Thanks all!

Re: Behind the Edit **SPOILERS**

Not been on this board today so have not gone through the posts but has Piper M posted today and given us her opinion of the 'leaks' of the finale VS the Edit we have been shown all along ?

I would love to hear her opinions and the opinions of the other experts that have helped her in the "Behind the Edit" thread.

As for me the edit has been beyond weird.

What I find the weirdest is the 'falling in love' music they have used for ALL Jason and DeAnnas scenes, topping that off with crescendo music for the end of the FD. I simply cannot get over that. The others (Graham, Jesse and Jeremy) got very steady background music and definitely nothing to aid an unsuspecting viewer to fall in love with what was displayed on screen.

Can someone please please explain the music edit given to the supposed F1 vs what is given to the supposed F2 ???

Re: Behind the Edit **SPOILERS**

Cheeky, great post. You definitely have watched with an objective eye. I think alot of us have felt D needs Jason, but I do think she probably finds Jesse exciting and Jason predictable. I liked Jesse more and more each episode. The thing that I remembered her saying was you need to be friends first. Talk about the tortoise and the hare. Jesse would truly be the hare. I think you are right on about how he didn't expect to fall in love with her. At first, I found him to be insincere and later on, he seemed more into D. I was so sure it was Jason, but after reading your post, I can see how she might pick Jesse. I like both guys but in spite of all D has said I don't think she is ready to move cross country and settle down with a stepson. Jesse is free to move to Atlanta or anywhere for that matter. Just read today that Jesse has a couple of successful businesses. I always thought one thing that attracted D to Brad was his money. JMO If the leaks are true, I won't be disappointed Monday.

Re: Behind the Edit **SPOILERS**

Good post, cheeky, but you've made the point that has upset so many of us. You said it was "easier than usual" to keep the Jesse relationship off the radar. Why should it be off the radar? This is The Shocker, it's the Bachelorette and we're supposed to see a love story, or D's "fairy tale." Why go to so much trouble to shock us?

I am most certainly not the edit guru - in fact, I'm not a guru of anything (well at least not anything pertinent to spoiling). I am at best a struggling student of BLF. But I follow all the threads, as I don't believe that an single analysis can lead you to a conclusion - you need to integrate all data.

That said, Jason has got an F1 edit. He got the best room on the FS - normally "reserved" for F1. He got the music and all the other subliminal clues this show usually gives. As I have read Piper's excellent transcripts after each show airs (usually more entertaining than the show) he has gotten an F1 edit all along.

So why is he not F1?

In spite of insider information that says he isn't, maybe he really is. Or, maybe he really was.

All the rooms looked strikingly the same to me, but Jason got the curtain/balcony view and Jesse got the candle-lit bathroom view. Which one is the F1 edit? (Twilight zone music is playing in my head)

Re: Behind the Edit **SPOILERS**

Cheeky - I agree 100%!! I think Jason is a GREAT guy and I was always surprised she kept Jesse around (from the first episode on!) - until the hometown date and then I really started to like him, for the same reasons you stated. I totally think Deanna was being honest throughout the show, but that what she thought she wanted may not really be that simple. I think they were both surprised and caught off guard by their attraction to each other, because they are not what either one of them would have "put on paper". But I DO believe it is a love story and a romance, no matter how much I love Jason and Ty and will hate, hate, hate to see him hurt on Monday night.

I can relate. When I first met the guy I'm gaga over now, a friend had mentioned he might be good for me. I said "him?" Now, lol. much, much different. It happened within the course of a year, and VERY slowly. It caught me VERY off guard, but not in a bad way.
