Why, oh why didn't I just read your run down? You caught everything, it was like watching all over again. Except I would have 1 hr and 45 minutes back.
Great job, Ariel. Are you going to be doing the same for BPad? I hope so.
The less I see of douchcanoeKalon and scarybabyeagleChris the better.

7/22 FINALE AND FINAL ROSE CEREMONY
A packed full two hours with a studio decorated in roses and candles, and an audience anticipating the LIVE After the Final Rose Special which follows. What could be more special…hmm…the coming together of a love story?
Ricki has arrived in Curacao! She gets big mommy hugs and some girl time before mommy leaves for work. Work in this instance is the emotional job of deciding between two worthy men to serve as both husband to her and father to her daughter.
She greets her parents, Suzy and David, brother, Ernie, and his fiancée, Bethany, before standing at the front entrance of their borrowed house, Seru Boca Estate, to wait for her first anxious suitor.
Jef: Freshly Dead Flowers
Jef enters with smiles and nerves, delivers his bouquets to Susie and Bethany while assuring Emily she will be receiving plenty of flowers. After chit chat, Suzy pulls Jef aside to get a Mother’s reassurance that he loves her daughter. She is skeptical of the process because of what happened with Brad, and she loved Brad. Jef wins her over by telling her that more than anything he wants to be a good husband and father and Ricki would be a part of that. He is then passed on to Ernie, who plays the big brother role. He too is won over and the final hurdle, David, is up. Once Jef lays his heart out between them, David says he can see Emily is happy and gives his blessing for a possible proposal.
Emily says that the gathering went very well, and she hopes her family gives Arie a fair chance.
Arie: Very Dead Flowers
Arie arrives full of confidence that he is meeting his future in-laws. But, he is nervous and tells us that when that happens he talks a lot. He did. So much so that it was noticeable that Emily’s family was silent. He did have a blunder when admitting he didn’t fish to two avid fishermen, then by trying to fill in with his limited knowledge. However, Suzy loved the thought behind giving them his collection of journey roses and that got him back on track. He runs the same family gauntlet as Jef and fairs just as well, which confuses David because, after Jef, he didn’t know if he wanted to meet another suitor.
When Arie leaves, Emily asks for her family’s opinion as to which of the two men would be best for her. After hemming and hawing, they go neutral and pretty much tell her to put on her big girl panties; that it is her decision.
Jef LCD: Ricki Giggles Come Standard
But before we get to that much anticipated meet-up, Jef and Emily come together on a blanket on a deserted beach…no…not that! They talk. Mainly they talk about whether Jef will meet Ricki. Emily dithers, but Jef asks her to place herself in his shoes. Harking back to the puppet store where they could see through each other’s eyes, she does, and sees it is foolish to think Jef might propose to her without meeting her number one. When she says now, Jef jumps up and they walk down the beach arm in arm, hand in hand.
Jef is nervous. They peek through the front door shutters and can see Ricki frolicking in the pool. When they join her poolside, Emily introduces Jef as her friend. He sits down and asks a water bobbing Ricki for a high five and she obliges. Jef can tell by her giggles that she is nervous, too. After a little encouragement from her mom, Ricki invites Jef to swim with her. He strips to his trunks, puts on a pair of pink goggles like Ricki wears and allows her to push him off the bridge rail into the pool. The scenes after that are of the three of them playing in the pool, taking lettuce for the salamanders, letting a hermit crab go free in the sand and sitting on the edge of the pool where Ricki snuggles in her mom’s lap and they get serious about stuffed animals. Ricki learns that Jef bought her a puppet like the ones her mom told her about and is then scuttled off to bed while Emily walks Jef out. After Jef exclaims how much fun he had, she tells him to get ready for dinner. Kisses and goodbye for now.
Emily arrives at Jef’s hotel room where they toast the day with wine, then snuggle down on the couch. Jef presents her with a coffee table book of Curacao because the place means so much to them. Emily loves it, especially the stick figures of them Jef drew on different pages. They laugh and kiss and kiss. Finally it is time to say goodbye for the last time before the Rose Ceremony. As Jef watches her leave in the rain, he tells us that this is the hardest goodbye he has ever had to say.
Emily Sucks at Closure
Jef may have had a hard time with that goodbye, but Emily is a basket case the next morning when, after talking it through with Chris Harrison, she knows she is in love with Jef and can’t go through the Last Chance Date with Arie trying to be happy. She gears herself up for her hardest goodbye.
Emily: I don’t even know how to start the conversation. I don’t know what to say.
Arie arrives at a botanical garden ahead of Emily under a voice over where he professes his love and his confidence that she returns it. This is one of those times when the editors twist the screw. We know what is to happen, but he doesn’t, yet they allow his dreams of being with Emily to lead him down the garden path, literally in this case. While he waits, a local woman shows him how to make a love potion and he stirs it up all ready to smooth it over Emily’s arms and legs.
Emily puts on a wan smile when she greets him and accepts a hug along with some of his enthusiastically concocted love potion. Then, she leads him to a bench so she can break his heart. But, as with Sean, she focuses on what she loves about him and how she saw IT with him all the while crying until he gets the message. Arie can only take so much. He is in shock, of course, and stunned. He leaves the bench before she is through trying to justify her action and she chases after him. He lets her off the hook by climbing in the car after a hug. He didn’t see it coming. Emily is distressed.
The Courtyard Podium: No Sunset Beach
The next day, however, she is much more chipper as she and Jef will have the Final Rose Day all to themselves.
Jef makes the requisite trek to visit Neil Lane – he of the engagement rings – and settles on a ring that says, Emily, because he knows her. He pockets the ring and prepares for his fate.
Chris escorts Emily to a raised podium in the middle of a cobble stone courtyard, which is balanced on each side with large pottery urns and flanked by colorful one room dwellings. Once she is settled, Jef arrives and is escorted to the courtyard gate by Chris. Tradition remains with Chris’ words that this point is as far as he can take him. Jef enters, stops a moment to find his mark then continues to the podium and a smiling Emily gowned in flowing peach with a Grecian Warrior studded bodice.
The sun is high in the sky when Emily lets go of her, “I love you so much.” With heartfelt words from Jef, and kisses in between, he tells her that what he is about to say are forever words.
With that he kneels and asks Emily to marry him. She pauses, staring at him for about 15 seconds because she doesn’t want to be the girl engaged 15 times and never married. With him still on bended knee and the ring box open with arm outstretched, she says YES. He says YES. He slides the ring on her finger, and, of course, they kiss and kiss while the music swells.
The Engaging Couple Plus One
As the Ceremony comes to a close, Ricki runs through the gate into the courtyard and they leave the podium to join her. All three leave the Rose Ceremony hand in hand. Do I get an Ahhh? If not, I’ll give one of my own – AHHH!
So....how is everyone doing two plus months later? Are Emily and Jef still in the throes of new love and has Arie accepted this and found closure?

7/22 AFTER the FINAL ROSE
During the Finale, the audience gathered for the LIVE ATFR was able to voice opinion during commercial cuts in the tape. It was mostly innocuous with Chris asking for clapping votes and a couple of women voicing their whatEVS. The usual lineup of previous contestants all sat in a row and went Blah, Blah, Blah at one point. Those in attendance this year were Ashley Hebert/JP Rosenthal, Deanna Pappas-Stagliano, her brother-in-law, Michael Stagliano and Ashley Spivey. Both Ashleys were on Brad 2.0 with Emily so had some relevance. Michael promoted Bachelor Pad, but I can’t think of one reason why Deanna was there.
Okay – that was then and this is now when the audience can make itself known throughout the show with their cheers or moans and groans.
Before Emily walks out (to cheers) let us remember the season. Tourist Bureaus must love this show. From the launching pad in Charlotte, NC to the white sands of Bermuda to capitols of Europe – London, Dubrovnik and Prague; and back to the Island of Curacao in the Caribbean. Don’t forget the hometown locations that also received publicity – Chicago, IL, St. George, UT, Phoenix, AZ and Dallas, TX. We saw castles (fairy tale motif) a painted library ceiling, rivers and bridges galore, craggy peaks and Big Ben. Besides all the travelogue wonder, we also viewed Emily’s Amazing Journey where she made friend/love/lust connections with at least four men. ( I wrote three Bachelorette drinking words.)
From Flirting with Kermie
To kissing Jef
Emily has had a season of discovery.
Chris: You look beautiful and in love.
Emily: I am. I am. YAY! Finally!
Emily gushes and beams from ear to ear when talking about Jef and says the main thing is how he makes her feel; more confident in herself, inspires her and he is funny. To save Chris from being blinded, she shows off her engagement ring with its large center cut clear diamond. She then underlines her love for Jef in that the ring itself could be replaced with a piece of tape and she would still be happy.
Chris makes Emily relive that moment in Curacao when she made the decision to let Arie go early. She was so happy with Jef, but so sad that she had to hurt Arie. She admits to not being very good with intense moments or being the bearer of bad news, so she would like to air that laundry with Arie. She was in love with Arie and there will always be a piece of that in her heart, but she picked Jef even though she had strong feelings for Arie.
Arie sad. Arie need closure.
Emily feels nervous now and guilty for not giving him closure. They hug, they sit and Chris leads. Arie tells us that watching the Finale helped him, made him understand. He regrets that kissing scenes took precedence over conversation scenes during the show. Immediately after the wonky goodbye, he wished he had known of her feelings for Jef. Why, he asked himself.
Emily apologizes for not giving him closure during the goodbye; that she needs to learn how to be more direct.
Arie: I wish you had said to me what you said to Chris. That would have been so much easier.
Thinking there might still be a chance, Arie flew to Charlotte, called Emily, who wouldn’t see him, yet dropped off his Bachelorette notebook of musings on her doorstep. He didn’t ring the bell out of respect for Emily and Ricki, and left without seeing her. Emily returns the unopened notebook to him while they are sitting on the couch.
We learn the reason Arie flew back to Charlotte and left the notebook was that he thought Emily had chosen no one. When Jef called him because Emily didn’t know how to handle the contact from Arie, he then knew the situation and got his closure. It is funny that he got closure from Jef rather than from Emily.
Done, moving onward…happy couple to reunite!
Beware sweet trickles of sugary goodness
Jef confirms that they are happy and in love. Jef gushes that Emily is smart, caring, funny, witty, such a good mom. He uses a lot of adjectives to describe her. He ends by saying they just fit perfectly together. He discloses that they were shipped off to secret locations pretty much every weekend and Ricki went to a few of them. Jef and Ricki had so much fun that he would be exhausted when the weekend was over.
Neither had seen the proposal, so it was re-played with a cut-in of them while watching. Chris ribs Emily about her 10 second pause before YES though Jef didn’t recognize it as uncomfortable because he thought she was just relishing the moment as she has a tendency to do. He also disclosed that no one – not Emily, not the show, had any idea if he was going to propose, or not. So, he also thought that maybe the surprise kept her still. Emily says those 10 seconds are a blur, but she harkened back to not wanting to be always engaged and never a bride.
No more safe house visits; now they can do the 24/7 thing. The immediate plan is for Emily and Jef to travel to Ghana, Africa on a People Water well digging project. Once they return home, Jef will find an apartment in Charlotte so Ricki can continue in her school and be with her friends and family in the area. After the wedding (hinted to be possibly in spring 2013) they will then decide on a more permanent home base.
GOOD LUCK TO THEM AND CHEERS TO THE END OF A DELIGHTFUL SEASON!
CREDIT ROLL: Jef’s family joins them onstage – his mom, two sisters, his brother and his sister-in-law. The celebration continues with hugs and good wishes. Jef turned 28 the following day, so I’ll also add a HAPPY BIRTHDAY JEF to the cheers.
ADD ON: Two scenes we didn’t see on the LIVE show that probably took place during commercial breaks – Emily fulfills her promise to Chris from the MTA to do the Running Man dance, and Jef brings out the Marionettes and the two of them put on a performance. I haven’t checked You Tube, but they might be there.

Thanks for all the hard work, Arielflies! Loved seeing that last picture of the three of them, dressed casually, looking relaxed and happy. What a lovely family they make! I hope it all works out for them, and they can create a wonderful life together.
Thanks for a great recap. I have hope for those two making it because, though their courtship was strange in that Emily was dating other men, it also seemed almost normal because they seemed to have more back and forth conversations. It just made me feel that the relationship was taken more seriously with Jef and Emily than it was with Arie. I didn't believe that Arie would care too much if he didn't get to meet Ricki. I felt that he would've been happy just spending the day making out. If you've been married a long time like I have you know that you have to have other things going for you besides just the physical.
Love it! Thanks Arielflies!
Ask me to show you poetry in motion, and I will show you a horse.
Arielflies, you wrote PERFECT recaps, I'm sorry I didn't get to read them all earlier, but for the episodes I missed you were an absolutely perfect stand-in. I really appreciate the time you spend on these.
Loved this: "Emily’s Amazing Journey where she made friend/love/lust connections with at least four men. ( I wrote three Bachelorette drinking words.)"
We know the show too well.
Fleiss' threats of "the most dramatic ____ ever" mean nothing, at this point.
You win, in my book
