They are always choosing them right up to the last minute. Either the mix isn't right or they find someone "wonderful." The filming isn't until mid-October, so I am not sure what the hurry is for casting

Buzz up!Jason Mesnick is hoping he has better luck with a crop of contestants on the new season of The Bachelor than he had with Bachelorette DeAnna Pappas, who rejected his proposal last season.

ABC announced Wednesday that Mesnick, 32, will star in the 13th season of The Bachelor, beginning in January.

Mesnick, an account executive in estate and legacy planning who divorced two years ago, is the single father of a 3-year-old son, Ty.

A native of Cleveland, he lives in Washington.

Pappas and fiance Jesse Csincsak, both 26, have set a wedding date of May 9, 2009.

I was right. Having selected as single dad (JASON) as next bachelor, they are prominently releasing his identity to affect casting. Which is way better than having 23-yo girls run screaming from the cocktail party at the notion of Insta-Family. I bet Jason wanted the early announcement to attract "serious" applicants.

Jason Hopes the “Third Time is the Charm”

Millions of viewers were stunned when DeAnna Pappas rejected Jason Mesnick’s proposal, as he dropped to one knee to profess his love in the season finale of “The Bachelorette.” Brokenhearted and wondering how he could have misjudged DeAnna’s intentions, Jason’s female fans flocked to support him, helping him heal from his very public dismissal. I'm disappointed, I was hoping for a new face/personality. Wonder if they are auditioning single moms because I can't imagine under 30 career-minded successful women being too anxious to be mothers after a few short weeks. Perhaps they are changing things around and might do a date-for-a few-weeks scenario?? His face is on the alphabet board so I guess it's for real.

If they hope to have any success,* my suggestion is that they eschew casting the deliberate psychos, and that they intentionally and candidly question each candidate as to whether she can see herself:

(1) becoming an instant stepmom to a loved and obviously doted upon toddler

(2) willing to instantly leave her home and move to Seattle.

If the answer is not an unconditional "yes", then they need to kindly and wisely give that candidate a skip until the next Bachelor season.

* Of course, this all depends on whether TPTB are really serious at all about having a successful outcome.

If not, then it will be business as usual - such as that is.

PS Common sense dictates that giving a compatibility test similar to the ones like the dating services use in order to select 25 women who have the same interests and goals that he has wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Perhaps also, they might select women who interests are a bit more mature in keeping with his age and responsibilities in order to avoid what happened to him during his last Bachelor experience.

Just wanted to say that I am very excited to see Jason as the new Bachelor. I hope he finds true love -- God knows the track record of this show is not the best and it sure would be nice to actually see someone happy with the outcome. One can dream, right? Jason is a good choice because I think his heart is truly in it. At least it looks that way. I am a hopeless romantic and will be suckered into watching this show again because of him. Sigh.
