| Re: Bevin - Bachelor 10 I'm a long time lurker, first time poster. Thought I'd chime in about Washington accents. I'm a Seattle native and my family has been here for 4 generations. The only people I have ever heard say "crick" and "warsh" are the older generations - 70 and older. My aunt says warsh and we kid her about it! If we have any type of accent, it's of a Canadian influence, imo. I, too, have read that the PNW has very little distinctive regional accent, as echo 226 mentioned. My husband is from the DC area, and we say a few words differently - I say roof as rhyming with 'goof', he says it like rhyming with 'foot'. But in general, you can't really tell our speech apart. But moving on to more important things! I am a big Bevin fan, and have been from the very beginning. I'm not thrilled with the edit she's been given, but am holding out hope! Have to root for the hometown girl! ![]() |

to the FORT, kirstenp1! Jeez, why do I always out myself on age? Will I never learn? I didn't even know about the warsh in my speech until a woman at work pointed it out - then everyone laughed whenever I had to say Washington, which was often. I know I was stretching for an explanation and some balm to ease my irritation over the Bevin whine posts. I hope you keep cheering for your hometown girl. The flotilla needs more kayaks. ![]()

| Re: Bevin - Bachelor 10 Regarding the accent discussion, I definitely can hear the PNW accent, but I've been born and raised here and have always had an ear for linguistics. I heard a Portland accent all over Lisa last season, for example. But I don't hear it in Bevin, either. Weird.

| Re: Bevin - Bachelor 10 I have a couple comments: 1) I have come around to Tessa. I guess my initial impression of her "guardedness" was that she was boring. I am a fan of really salacious reality TV and Tessa didn't fit this mold. Now, I am all aboard the Tessa train. I think she is really genuine and sweet. She would definately be a lifelong partner, not just a fling. Most of the other women seemed cheap and predictable. GO TESSA! 2) Bevin had said that she was married as a teenager in the preview (not a spoiler, really). Previously, I had posted that I went to high school with Bevin so I have been racking my brain to figure out who she married. How do you get married as a teenager?? Maybe this will shed some light on her insecurities. 3) I am putting my two cents in on a bunch of posts. Bevin was probably recruited for this..They recruit for all of the reality shows. I was recruited for Survivor at a Target. I, of course, said no because "I would be the b$@#h and I don't want America to see my bad side." I reserve that for people who deserve it! This leads into point #4. 4) You can mold anyone into the character you want them to be if you have 24 hours/day of video footage. I am sure we are not seeing the "real woman" in any of these bachelorettes. Kinda sad really. I don't envy them. Bevin made it as far as I wanted her to. I can't wait for everyone to see Bevin's beautiful home town. (and mine as well) ![]() |

| Re: Bevin - Bachelor 10 I have to echo Kirsten. There is no such thing as a Washington accent. That is one of the silliest things I have ever heard. I was born in Southern, California, but I have spent most of my life in Washington. Washingtonians have the kind of nonregional diction that most television anchors strive for. They do not mispronounce any words. The few people that do say "warsh" get made fun of, or more politely teased. People from Washington sound exactly like anyone from the West Coast. The rest of the world (and I have been to many other countries) say that we have no accent...we are all lumped into the West Coast category. |

do you mean legally? sorry just wondering A few years back I volunteered at a place that helped unwed young mothers and they also counselled young people on relationships, sex, blah blah (I did receptionist and office work, not counselling), .... there were lots of teenagers who had married and it didnt work out, most had a child together but there were others who got married without a pregnancy involved. Just young people making poor choices for the most part. | |
