I had high hopes for this last installment of the Bachelor. The bachelor was HOT, and he was in his 30's. I had visions of it ending a lot like Byron's season. I still think Byron's season worked because he was older and the women were a little older too.

After seeing the Jesse season, when the 25 year old picked practically a child to receive his one-way plane ticket, I was really tired of the Bachelor. I was tired of seeing 25 year old guys proclaim their readiness for settling down and getting married, and I was even sicker of seeing these little 21 year old girls saying they were ready for marriage. That's just silly. I don't know what the average age of men and women are going into their first marriage nowadays, but I'd bet it's older than 25 for the men and 21 for the women.

I really want to find out what the hell happened with Travis and sarah, but I wonder if we will really ever know. I would really hate to think that Sarah pulled a Jen -like stunt.

If they continue with the series, I would hope that the Bachelor or Bachelorette would be someone who really wants to do the show and is open to the idea of getting engaged to someone after a very short courtship. Blob was begged/coerced into doing the show too, wasn't he? And we know how that turned out.

I would also hope they go with people who are mature enough to really be willing to settle down. I still think that's why the Byron season is my favorite ever

I wish they would film this over a longer period of time. Have the initial meet and greet over a weekend at a Island restort. Have them all spend the whole weekend together then have the first eliminations. AND let the Bachelor review the unseen footage so he knows what goes on behind his back without the ladies knowing he was going to watch it.

During the first week keep them at the resort but have the Bachelor pick the girls to get long one on ones and the rest get daily hangout time with him and 1-2 hours of alone time.

Film the rest of the show over a period of six months with everyone going back to their normal lives and going on dates like normal people. Evenings out, phone calls with every weekend or everyother weekend for big get togethers, longer one on ones and elimation time.

The last two months would be everyother weekend for the final two. It would give the ones involved a chance to talk about real world stuff and day to day problems.

Finally have the end live so they don't have to hide it for 3 months. I know this isn't worked out the best but if Fleiss can come up with some of the things he does I'm sure his staff could figure out a way to make it work.

I would like to see things work out for the couples. I want to see the romance.

Remember in Byron's, they had 2 bachelors that the ladies could choose between, what if they had that dynamic for a few more episodes instead of just one? Allowing more possibilities of a real connection to happen?

(Making it 6 months long is too expensive I think)

The selling point is the romantic fantasy isn't it? ... Do you need guys like Jen's Jerry that have enough "game" to romance the ladies?

I dunno how to fix it...

Well, if they keep the current format, use older participants, and do away with the "Bachelorette House" it can work sometimes...but much of the artificial drama Fleiss likes would disappear.

Multiple Bachelors would require a complete change in the show's format. Maybe you could have twelve of each, multiple dates each week, and then some kind of "connection challenge" where the two least involved people get eliminated each week. It would be more like "The Amazing Race".

"Marriage in Six Weeks" just isn't realistic - the people in the real world who are capable of that don't seek out reality TV shows as a forum to get it done. But the show can still be entertaining if they drop that goal and change the name and the focus a little bit.

I loved the Byron/Mary season (my favorite!); however, I always felt that was a setup. Mary being a fave (not for all, but for a lot of people) from Blob's season and wanting a commitment/BABY so much, Byron's ex-wife was Hispanic also, oh! and Mary just happens to like fishing.... It never came out that it was a setup but, from day one, I highly suspected it or someone had heard that Byron thought Mary was hot or something...! At any rate, it didn't really matter because it turned out to be the most believable love story of them all (oh yes, there's Trista and Ryan too, and I supposed Charlie and Sara). Again, Ryan was a man who was looking for commitment so that's why that one worked. I was totally surprised by Charlie and his wise choice (the girl who would commit). But enough of my ramblings about previous series....!!

Would I watch another Bachelor/ette? ABSOLUTELY!!

Would I probably be disappointed in the entire process/ending? ABSOLUTELY!!

Would I watch another one after the next one? ABSOLUTELY!!

    There's no cure for this

Watching The Bachelor is just like a second marriage - the triumph of hope over experience.

I know they could have two bachelors and they are twins.

Then they could double date and the girls wouldn't know which was which if they just showed up at the house. Fleiss would have a field day.

Cynicgal, did ABC do a docu-drama following the lives of several NYC singles as they over something like six months, following them as they met and dated different guys? I didn't watch it, but it was on last Spring, I believe. It reminded me a little of your suggested format, except that there were more than just one main character involved. I do think that the cost might be too much for the producers to follow them for six months, but I like a lot of your ideas.
Or we could go with MsFroggy's perpetual Bachelor idea! That would be a hoot, move 'em in, move'em out! But maybe they should leave that opening for not just booting out the girls if they don't click, but booting the main character if that person has no spark!! ...... NEXT!!

Its like Groundhog Day for the over-the-hill couch potatoes - you get the chance to relive your opportunity to find your one true love over and over again without cheating and from the comfort of your home. Its like porn for us diehard romantics.

On a serious vein, I think even when the show fails to result in a match, its still good for us. For us who are happily married, it brings home how lucky we were to find a partner. For those who are single, its got to make you feel better to know how difficult it is to find love, even when you are beautiful with a perfect body. There is no magic formula. Love cannot be forced.

I don't understand why viewers insist that this show must result in a relationship. We all know its unrealistic to fall in love in most cases in 6 weeks. Its like watching a game show - not everybody wins the million dollars but you still watch because the outside chance is there.
    great post!
Yes, I would watch again, why because I'm addicted!

I like this idea!!! Same group of girls and rotate the bachelor. If he hooks up early in the game just bring in the next guy.
