I don't know why but I really like this one. Yes he is young but he really has a mature presence and very directed in his life. Couldn't go wrong with this one!

Sibling basketball rule #1. Cheating is absolutely crucial!!! #2. Elbowing is positively necessary #3. Fouls, fouls, fouls....are definitely a requirement of the game. If you've ever played basketball with your sibalings, you peeps should know the rules.

| You know JP is not that much younger than Jen was when she started her little trek down Bachelor Lane. ![]() Also, If you go back and watch the tapes, I think JP has been very sincere and respectful to Jen. Just my opinion. I also raised two boys. Both treat their "women" with utmost respect. But I tell you, if it came down to competing for something....watch out.

It was said by his brother, and the beginning of the sentence refers to basketball. But when you take the two sentences together, the message is, "Once he gets his mind set on something, he's determined to be successful to the point that he'll cheat or foul." Taken by itself, the first sentence is innocuous inasmuch as it refers to playing ball with your brothers. Taken in context, my reading is broader. I'll admit, there's something I just don't like about this guy. We haven't seen any evidence I can remember indicating that he's been (trying to) cheat in the game at hand. We also haven't seen anything to indicate he hasn't. The editing is neutral, IMO.

jasmar I am agreeing with you...interesting how competitive - so is all this just a "game" to him...here is another part of the article quoted earlier in the thread: "So, Merritt controlled what he could, starting with his interaction with the other bachelors. When they asked how his dates went, he always told them things had gone wrong and he just didn't think it was going to work. The reality: the dates were great. "They didn't think I had a chance," Merritt said of the bachelors. "By the end of the show, I thought ... I had all these guys' cards in my hand. I knew exactly all of their feelings. They had no clue about mine." Talk about playing the field." Interesting - does that indicate anything - it sounds like he is paying cards, but does he have the best hand to win???

Thanks for the welcomes. And I agree with Jasmar's take on it. Also, if the "rules" for your own games say that "cheating" is allowed, and everyone understands that, then it isn't really cheating, because those are the rules you have all agreed to. If you agree to the rules, then break them, it's cheating, and IMO, despicable. To me, character and integrity are far more important than winning. Who knows, maybe Jen wouldn't care either. {shrug} I still think I would not like to know him at all. ![]() Edited to add: Heh, I just realized, I named myself after a notorious cheat! Ack! Lucy was always snatching the football away from Charlie Brown just as he was trying to kick it. {sigh} I got Lucy's nickname from my family because of my (former) propensity to sticking out my tongue. Now I'm stuck with the name here! Oh well . . . :phhht

JP will be at Samford U's basketball game tomorrow night. Maybe I ought to go ask him if he'll show me his cards. http://samfordsports.collegesports.c...020105aaa.html Star of ABC's 'The Bachelorette' To Attend Samford-Tennessee Tech Game John Paul Merritt will be at Seibert Hall watching the Bulldogs against TTU Feb. 1, 2005 John Paul Merritt, star of the hit ABC show "The Bachelorette", is planning to attend Samford's men's basketball game Thursday. The Bulldogs play host to Tennessee Tech at 7 p.m. in Seibert Hall in a game that should go a long way in determining the OVC regular season champion. John Paul will be in the stands to cheer on his younger brothers, J. Robert Merritt and Joe Ross Merritt, key players for the Samford Bulldogs. For the season, J. Robert is averaging 16.3 points, while Joe Ross averages 5.6 points. The Bulldogs will begin a key four game homestand Thursday, and a special halftime promotion is geared toward attracting more fans to Seibert Hall. John Paul Merritt will be presenting flowers (presumably roses) and a gift certificate for a free meal to McCormick & Schmick's seafood restaurant in Colonial Brookwood Village to one lucky female fan. Samford is 6-2 in the OVC, just one game behind 7-1 TTU. Tickets to the double-header are $8.00 for adults, $3.00 for children under 12. The women's team plays at 5 p.m.
