I wonder how much money the network misses out on when countries decline to purchase the rights to air the series...?

If it was a lot, it should provide incentive for the network to come up with contestants that truly are compatible. I wonder if they already utilize personality testing when choosing 25 candidates for the Bachelor harem?

Maybe it isn't a lot. If it was, it seems like the show would be bending over backwards to attain marital success rather than shock value.

Are Europeans in general more romantic than Americans? Are they hating the lack of romance even more than us?

I'm sure the European decline to purchase the show is because the candidates are already broken up by the time the purchasing is negotiated. Can you imagine how ungratifying it would be to watch the show if you know the final pair weren't even a pair any more? Once the cat is out of the bag in America, the charm and intrigue of the show is gone. All that's left is the voyeuristic lure of watching a couple fall in love. And now that ABC seems to have removed all evidence of that, there's really no reason at all to watch this show after-the-fact.

No, that's not the reason at all. Belgium at least bought B1, 2, 3 and B"ette 1, 2. They knew that Alex and Aaron had broken up with their respective chosen ones when they went for Andrew. On top of that they have made their own Bachelor show which is now going through a second season. The chosen one of Bachelor 1 broke up with him almost immediately after the show, got back together briefly a couple of months later, only to dump him definitively a while later. There was no problem, no shock there, and they went for a second season nevertheless (coming up actually in the fall).

Plus the audience has no idea what is going on in America because they don't check and have little contact with the US.

Oh, I misunderstood your original post. It sounds like the series has been pretty well received after all, if they've purchased 5 of the 6 series' that were available so far.

It doesn't make sense why they wouldn't purchase Blob's series if you're sure the quick break-up wasn't the reason. There was nothing else that bad about his series...he just kissed a lot of girls. But it was no where near the train wreck that this last series has been.

They are not buying Bob and Jesse because they find them too uninteresting for the money.

Incidentally, Extreme Makeover was such a hit that they now have their own local show in Belgium as well.
