I hope they do a better job casting for Ali.
I agree. I think they just picked girls for drama and don't really care who the lead is anymore or what they want. This show is now about drama not love.

    1) Bec' the lead was not interesting or engaging
    2) Bec' the lead picked the least liked girl in the house
    3) Bec' RS leaked the f1 early on
    4) Bec' a 32 yr old chose an immature 23 yr old (wants to mature with her)
    4) Bec' he picked someone who's personality was _________ (fill in a word that fits your perception of her)

    Any other reason?

    All of the above!!

Didn't we hear that they wanted to have some type of date take place at the Playboy mansion this season? Lol

Hi I'msotired! Glad you asked actually! All this talk of story boarding has gotten way out of hand, IMO, at least compared to what I know about how it is put together. It is far more flexible, unpredictable, and complex than the Conventional View dominating this thread in particular.

    (1) The LEAD absolutely is free to fall in love or pursue a relationship with anyone he or she fancies. At the end of the day, that's what they hope happens -- something spontaneous and real. It is reality tv.

    (2) If "love" or "passion" do not happen spontaneously Next Entertainment is still contractually obligated to produce and air 16 hours of primetime television.
SO, there are scads of manipulations, silly set up's, invented "dramas" and conflicts, achieved on film in hundreds of ways and following hundreds of background (off camera) conversations steering and guiding the lead to fall for one or the other, or keep one or the other -- they have to hedge their bets.

The core of the format is to make network television out of what "happens". If nothing worthy of TV time happens, they still have to air something, so they will take the elements they have and weave it into drama, story, scandal, whatever it takes to get something on the air that people will talk about, if not enjoy.

There is NO story board that says who will be F1. It's filmed on the fly as events happen.

One change over the past -- thanks to Brad Womack's breakthrough independence, IMO -- is to stop enforcing the show "rules" (can't leave and come back, can't have outside contact, can't have an overnight until the fantasy suites, etc.) so harshly. They go with the flow, and air the "rule breaking" as if it's really exciting and dramatic that someone "broke" a rule or crossed a line. That was helpful in terms of upping the ratings of a tired, tired old format that was losing its appeal even to its original demographic of the daytime soaps crowd.

on 9/6/09 I summarized my understanding of how this (and frankly any similar) reality tv show is put together:
Thanks so much, jlccaz! Sorry for the late response, but am just catching us after being gone all weekend and then working on my ragtab, lol. This now makes sense. I'd read talk of this for several seasons, and must have missed your 9/09 post. I'll quit wondering if they have everyone bound in duct tape to it, lol. (Although the visual is a pretty interesting thought...)
Every time MF grins, somewhere in the world a unicorn dies.
I don't think we're in Kansas anymore, Toto.

Roz is the poster child for the cautionary tale that is "be careful what you wish for cause you just might get it". She wanted her face on camera so she could expand her portfolio and have some name recognition, imo. Well, she got it. In spades. And after all that, I doubt it hurt her. In her profession there really is no such thing as bad publicity, as long as they spell your name right. Roz made out just fine. But, there for Jake? Not hardly.

In her 'normal' life she would push Jake aside faster than he could say "Thank you for flying with us today."

So what's this about a sex tape with Rozlyn being shopped to porn companies? Is it false info? I'm seeing many articles coming out about it.

This show is sooo messed up!

Every season I ask myself "What does it say about me that I am interested in this?"

I watch because there is absolutely no drama in my life and I'm fascinated by these people whose lives are nothing but drama. But I think maybe Michelle and I need to get a two-for-one deal on somebody's couch.

I've seen the same articles you have, sanlee. Who knows what's true?
