| What's up with that edit??!! Are you ready to start analyzing the edit? Kind of a crazy start, wasn't it? ![]() I'll begin with a few things, and everybody else can jump in.. Always before, the F3 (usually F4s) have been edited in 1-1 time with the Bachelor/ette during the Meet and Greet in order to establish an initial connection and beginning storyline for each of them. In a bizarre editing twist, this season the F1 is not heard even talking with the Bachelor in a group setting, let alone 1-1. Strange, very strange until we read that the almost over-the-top edited cheerful, jokey Melissa is going to go on a blimp ride in the next episode where she will be given the chance to begin to convince a doubting Jason that she is a serious enough person for him. Bingo! Our storyline for Melissa as the settled person right for Jason and Ty begins. Red flags in the Meet and Greet - the competitive, catty group ( Molly, Naomi, and Megan) in the lobby trash talking - not a good sign for the winner, vision boards, knowing too much about the Bachelor ("Do you feel like you know me?"), weird foot discussions, quitting your job for a committed family man, disparaging the other women in a form of direct address ( "You, #%@&*#), wearing an orange dress because Ty likes orange ties, and reading a poem while another girl sits awkwardly by. Remember that the edit doesn't reflect what truly happened or what truly was even said - as the part we hear is often taken out of context. However, the editing is used to tell the story that the producers want to tell from start to finish of how the Bachelor chose F1, so that is what we analyze - even though we realize that the edit isn't completely truthful! Next! ![]() |

I love reading your editing analysis stuff...quite fascinating. I get what you are saying here, but if they are trying to build a storyline regarding whether Melissa is too perky, cheery etc, and not serious enough for Jason, as it sounds he is questioning that in the next episode description....why still would they not have shown her perky self in conversation with Jason on the first night, to begin that arc then. The way it sounds, Jason is going to be shown questioning this aspect of Melissa, but we have no groundwork on her interactions with him that would give us pause that he saw her like this, or that he even noticed her at all...although we saw enough of Melissa with the women to surmise that she was perky, cheerleading, giddy like that with him as well....but why not start the story arc right from the getgo I wonder. It makes no sense to me that they are putting this out there as a concern of his about Melissa, when to our knowledge and what we were shown, the man barely knows she exists, and had zero interaction with her to form these concerns. Makes no sense to me. Thanks Karey ![]()

| Re: What's up with that edit??!! When the girls were talking about who they were gong to cast their vote for, I remember hearing someone say they were going to vote for Melissa...I think it was someone other than other girl from Dallas. If Melissa's name was mentioned, then something was left out in the editing, otherwise, why would her name have even been mentioned? |

They have done "hide the F1 bach/ette" several times before. Usually we will see them meet the Bachelor, and every episode there will be some small interaction that doesn't seeme to be that significant until you look back in retrospect and string everything together to make the story. In the case of the "hidden" or even the "stealth" bach/ettes, they don't usually get their 1-1 until the last episode before the HTDs at which we see their relationship begin to take off. Examples are: Jen (B3), Estella (B4), Jessica (B5), SarahStone (Travis), SaraB (Charlie) and Jennifer (P-Lo). We have new producers and editors for the last 2 seasons, and we have had some significant changes. I believe that this is their way of trying to "hide" their F1 - don't show her in interaction at all with the Bach the first night. However, start immediately forming a conflict (between them) and for the story that has to be resolved. Thus, the focus was on her behavior which seems to be at odds to the the "settled down" woman that he wants. ( Notice though that he is very quick to add in conjunction with that condition that his intended must be able to "light up the room"; "everybody likes her and she likes everybody else." We got that from the Meet and Greet editing>) They need to start resolving the conflict early, so she gets a 1-1 early - like next episode with the chance to begin proving herself serious and worth of his attention. Each episode we will have some kind of interaction even though maybe small that will contribute to the rising action and storyline. This will play out even while the other storylines are also rising ( with individual 1-1 dates, etc.)

| Re: What's up with that edit??!! We must keep in mind we are not the "average" viewer! We nit-pick this show to death but the regular viewer only knows what they are shown! The viewing public took away from this show... . 1. DeAnna wants Jason back and he doesn't understand why. 2. The ladies are fighting and someone actually gets smacked! 3. The gals are talking about DeAnna being obsessed. 4. Megan is a witch that no one likes. 5. Some one got really tipsy. 6. Jason is going to really go-at-it with many many girls! 7. He's going to propose to one of the ladies, probably a brunette, but have no clue which one. 8. The Hot Dog lady was sweet! 9. The vision board and implant girls were wierd and they are glad they didn't stay! 10. Next week the show will only be 90 minutes! Did I miss anything that a regular viewer took away from this 1st episode?

Bloomers, like you, i see the doubt that TPTB are trying to give us with Melissa. That reminds me of Jesse...I don't think any of us thought that he would make it far...although he did get a first impression rose (and was the first to get a first impression rose & win, correct?) I was dissapointed that we weren't shown 1-1 time with Jason and Mel...although since Jason says he's transparent, maybe he made it obvious that he was into her from the very beginning and Fleiss is trying to downplay it on purpose???

| Re: What's up with that edit??!! In the Chris Harrison Blog he says, "But one of the things I like best about Jason is he has NO poker face. As you saw in the first episode, he just can't hide what he's feeling -- good, bad or downright awkward. I find that very endearing as it allows all of us to really see and feel what his true emotions are." I think the reason we do not see any interaction between Melissa and Jason at the meet & greet is because of Jason's inability to hide his emotions. Jason has said in interviews he wants someone who "lights up a room", "gets along with and wants to get to know everyone". That seems to suit Melissa thus far in the interactions we have see of her with the other ladies. Obviously, there must have been some interaction for him to keep her for another round - darn, I wish we could have seen it. |
